Ford Motor Company was founded in 1903 by Henry Ford, with eleven other investors (In Encyclopedia Britannica, Ford Motor Company, 2017). Even though Ford was founded in 1903, that was not the year Henry Ford made his first automobile. Henry Ford made his first automobile in the year of 1869 and called it the Quadricycle (Ford Motor Company Timeline, 2017). Ford produces more than just everyday automobiles, Ford also produces luxury vehicles, commercial vehicles, and automotive parts. A few of Ford’s top selling vehicles include the 2017 Ford Mustang, 2017 Ford F-150, and the 2017 Ford Focus. To start off, one of Henry Ford’s greatest accomplishment was his first vehicle, the Quadricycle in 1896. This Quadricycle only had a “four-horsepower engine” (Ford Motor Company Timeline, 2017). His Quadricycle was a very simple vehicle that had two gears and no reverse (Ford Motor Company Timeline, 2017). From 1896 to 1901, Henry Ford was able to build a car with a 26-horsepower engine, from only having a four-horsepower engine car five short years before (Ford Motor Company Timeline, 2017). Henry Ford’s new 26-horsepower vehicle was able to beat a 70-horsepower car in a one mile race (Ford Motor Company Timeline, 2017). This shows that Henry Ford dedicated much of his time into building better engines and better vehicles. Since Henry Ford won that race, it lead to eleven other people wanting to invest their money into Henry Ford, and that was when the Ford Motor Company was founded in 1903 (Ford Motor Company Timeline, 2017). According to the article “Ford Motor Company” from Encyclopedia, Britannica, in 1908, only five years after Ford Motor Company had been founded, Ford opened their “first international sales branch in Paris”. Over the next six years, there were more than 500,000 Model T’s, in 1914 (In Encyclopedia Britannica, Ford Motor Company, 2017). This shows that opening new plants across the globe will increase the number of vehicles sold. With the number of vehicles sold increased, that will cause Ford to make a much larger profit. In more recent times, the Ford Motor Company was able to avoid bankruptcy in 2009 (In Encyclopedia Britannica, Ford Motor Company, 2017). Ford was able to avoid bankruptcy in 2009 because of the “federal government’s ‘cash-for-clunkers’ plan” (In Encyclopedia Britannica, Ford Motor Company, 2017). This plan gave customers up to $4,500 for trading
