MY FIVE YEAR PLANMAKAYLA G. MALLOY
SEPTEMBER 26, 2014
MY FIVE YEAR PLAN The biggest question asked of us high school students is the,” Are you going to college?” “Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years? Where do you plan on attending?” questions. Now some of us already have a plan set in action and others our age don’t even know if they want to go to college or not. I am asked these questions 30 million times a day. I’ve always wanted to go to college to become either an Ob/Gyn or a Medical Malpractice Lawyer. One thing is for sure though that college isn’t cheap nor is it easy to get into. Many people have an opinion on what college they want to go to but the only thing that’s stopping them is either money or academics. I know for a fact that we don’t have thousands of dollars for college, so I was always told that I needed to get a full ride to college. School has always been a big thing in my family for me because my mommy never went to college. She had me at a young age and both of her parents were dead when she had me, therefore she kind of had no choice but to raise me rather than put me off on someone else as there responsibility. From all of that happening to my mom, her dad dying while she was 13 and her mom when she was 16, and having me at 17 she had no other choice but to grow up very fast. My mother now looking back on how life was hard for her wants me to go to college and better myself to be able to depend on myself and not being worried and a teen mom. Being that education is the top priority in my household there is no room for slacking off. Education comes before anything extra. The harder I work now the better the future will be. Only the lord knows what the future will hold but as of right now I am working to a successful future with lots of open doors and opportunities. In my 5 year plan after high school graduation, I would hopefully have a scholarship to the college of my choice. I

In the book of Proverbs, it is written that there are “six things the Lord hates, and the seventh His soul detests.” Those seven deadly sins are: lust, gluttony, greed, laziness, anger, envy, and pride. In contrast to the seven deadly sins, there are seven heavenly virtues. These virtues are: purity, self-control, charity, diligence, forgiveness, kindness, and humility. In The Great Gatsby, author F. Scott Fitzgerald designs the characters to reflect each deadly sin but also each heavenly virtue.…

Can chasing an ideal blind us and prevent us from seeing the truth? Sometimes ideals can become such a big driving force in our life that they cause us to overlook the truth and ignore reality. Reality and ideals are contrasted through the goals in life of the characters Nick, Gatsby, and Daisy. Through contrasting ideals and the reality of a situation, F.Scott Fitzgerald suggests that chasing an ideal without recognizing the truth will not allow an individual to attain their goal because reality is needed to see the possibility of one’s dream.…

My parents are both college graduates. I watched my parents obtain their degrees while I was growing up, and it instilled in me a sense of the importance of a good education. I was raised knowing that sometimes early in life things happen to knock one off course but that it is never too late to get back on track and reach your goals. I learned that with a lot of effort, and support, anything is possible and a person can always improve their situation if they work hard enough and have a strong enough desire.…

A Spanish philosopher concluded that “those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” The whole purpose of our existence is to learn from our mistakes and past memories, thus being able to progress and essentially grow as a human being. Ultimately, a person’s past can be the ideal driving force and motivation needed in order to move up the ladder of success as displayed in F Scott Fitzgerald’s short novel, The Great Gatsby…

Rollercoasters! You may be asking yourself why I started off with the word rollercoasters, and I will tell you but first I want to say that reading The Great Gatsby has been a very eye opening experience for me. I didn’t expect many things to happen the way they did. This book to me was sort of a mystery novel. One minute people are having a wonderful time at a party and the next conversations are brought up about killing and death. It is almost as if this book was intended to make you think and feel differently in every chapter, in every page, and most definitely towards every character. Rollercoasters are my metaphor for this book. The rollercoaster symbolizes the ups and the downs, the different emotions that arrive when reading as well as how quickly a story can change. Not only did greatly enjoy reading this book but I had so many questions and feelings towards everything that happened from start to finish. I guess that is why the educational system continuously teaches the book year after year. Not only does it test your reading strength, but it tests your mental and physical ability as well.…

One of the biggest fears in today's world is the fear of not fitting into society. People of all age groups and backgrounds share this fear. Many individuals believe that to receive somebody's affection, they must assimilate into that person's society. Jay Gatsby, like any normal person, wants to fit into society. His feelings for Daisy make him strive to achieve that goal. In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Jay Gatsby attempts to fit into Daisy's society by any means available. The only way Jay makes enough money to enable him to be able to live near Daisy is by bootlegging, an illegal activity. Tom, Daisy's husband, reveals the truth about Gatsby's business, " I found out what your 'drug stores' were…He and this Wolfshiem bought up a lot of side-street drug stores here and in Chicago and sold grain alcohol over the counter. That's one of his little stunts. I picked him for a bootlegger the first time I saw him and I wasn't far wrong."(141) Gatsby wants to assimilate so badly that he commits crimes in order to get rich quickly. His love for Daisy clouds his mind. Jay is willing to do anything to win Daisy. Gatsby deludes himself to avoid accepting the fact that Daisy does not want to leave Tom: "'She's not leaving me!' Tom's words suddenly leaned down over Gatsby. 'Certainly not for a common swindler who'd have to steal the ring he put on her finger.' "(140) Once again the reader is reminded of Gatsby's willingness to do anything to win Daisy, including stealing. Bootlegging is an illegal way of making money and Gatsby does it just to be with Daisy and her friends. Jay Gatsby also throws many extravagant parties in hopes of winning the esteem of his neighbors and especially Daisy. "…And they will give you a better impression than my generalities of those who accepted Gatsby's hospitality and paid him the subtle tribute of knowing nothing whatever about him."(65) Gatsby invites everybody to his parties, including people he does not know. However,…

The 1920s prove to be an era that brought around some of the greatest influences and some of the greatest controversies. First, after high school may people do not consider going to college for whatever reasons one might have. Not going to college was not an option for me. However, my parents never went to college, and watching my mom struggle to make ends meet I just knew that I did not want that to be me. Therefore, I do not want to live my life, paycheck to paycheck, and worrying about weather or not I am going to have enough money to pay to keep a roof over my head. The reason for going to college is that I wanted to have a better life. Not everyone can go to college to better themselves, but I am lucky, and truly blessed that I am getting a opportunity to better myself. In fact, college is extremely important to me. I am the first one in my immediate family to go to college so it is a big deal to everyone that I not just go but to also graduate.…

What is my five year plan? Before I answer that, I want to tell you what education means to me. It is everything I do and don’t experience in life. School plays a big role in this because school is basically the first few stepping stones in being successful. The next few would be chooses you make at any given moment, and the final ones is paying attention to everybody and what they tell you. These “stepping stones” is what education means to me.…
