It is loosely based on a true story of a small high school basketball team. The story is located in a small farming community in Indiana where a new coach that has an unknown past and other than a traditional coaching style steps into a vacated role. The new ideas and ideals presented are met with reluctance and resistance from the players and local population who are engrained deeply with traditional thinking. Over time, and not without great resistance, the new coach inspires the team and the locals to embrace new ideals and structure. Along the way, the coach also inspires a former local basketball superstar to rejoin the team and in turn saves the coach from removal from his job as head coach. Although great underdogs, the team goes on to win the Indiana State Basketball…
The movie is about a lackluster minor league hockey team called the Charlestown Chiefs, located in the rundown town of Charlestown. When the local mill closes and the team appears to be on the verge of folding, its aging player/coach, played by Paul Newman, comes up with a strategy to keep interest in the sport alive....by having the players beat the living daylights out of everyone and everything they come across First of…
Our setting is rural Indiana in a town called Hickory. It’s a place that’s resistant to change. Hickory is a place where, according to Myra Fleener, a character in the film, “basketball heroes are treated like gods”. This town takes their basketball seriously, a setting where the new basketball coach faces the obstacle of sleuth of second-guessing fathers.…
The New York Giants are a professional football team, located in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Giants have been around since 1925, and have become a well-known organization and one that other teams look to emulate. The Giants play their home games at MetLife Stadium which was just built in 2010. The Giants are a part of my life, everyday conversation, looking up breaking news, who they are interested in taking in this year’s draft. It’s something I can share with my Dad, a fellow Giants fan, and many of my close friends. This team keeps us talking for hours as if we were on the field or in the locker room with them. There’s nothing better than waiting around all week to watch this team play on Sunday’s.…
movie was warm and inspiring and I believe leaves a feeling, that it is okay to have faith and pursue…
This movie is about a young man from the Anderson, SC area. The man has some difficulties in his life since he was born mentally challenged. Throughout the movie Radio (James Kennedy was his real name) befriends head football coach, Coach Jones. The first time they met in the movie was when Radio brought back a football that had been kicked over the fence a day or two earlier and Coach Jones told him he would buy him a hamburger. Then Radio started hanging around more. This is also where controversy started when the players would pick on him and play mean jokes. After football Radio went on to basketball to help out and it was more of the same from particularly one person that played both basketball and football. Radio was also granted the ability to come to school as an 11th grader and later on he was able to go as long as he wanted to. The film also shows how tough it is to be mentally challenged and to lose a parent. Coach Jones caught a lot of criticism throughout the movie taking up for Radio but he stuck through and said that as he is here more and more we can learn more and more from him just as much as he can learn from us. Eventually Coach Jones steps down from being the head coach at TL Hanna High but still kept his relationship with Radio. Towards the end of the movie is really where almost all the community gets behind Radio and supports him being there and really being a blessing to the community.…
The theme covers rising from the pits of despair to the heights of self-fulfillment and triumph. This plot-driven movie is set in a poverty-stricken Harlem neighborhood about 1987. Often tough to watch, it is a dreadful and heartrending story of a poor, morbidly obese, illiterate, 16 year old black teenager, Claireece “Precious” Jones, in 80s Harlem. She has to endure sexual, emotional and physical abuse daily in her life and nurses a quiet resolve to discover a better life for her.…
When I was younger I thought that I would enjoy Field of Dreams (Robinson, Kinsella, 1989) because it was a baseball movie. I remember watching it and not liking it because baseball was secondary to the actual plot. Since I was so young I never caught the actual meaning of the movie or what lesson it was trying to portray. This movie is about second chances, and having a dream that you feel is lost. It is also about having faith in your dreams even if they seem unreachable. The power of belief is what makes dreams come true. It doesn't matter how long it takes, "if you build it they will come."…
With this movie it shows a lot of the good and the ugly in people. It shows that most people can change because of the…

After watching and reflecting on this movie I learned many lessons from Simon Birch as a person and a believer in God. I always thought I had it tough but, after watching the movie I realized that there are many people in the world like Simon Birch who have to face problems that they have to live with for the rest of their lives. This has taught me to never lose faith and look at the bright side. For example, if I am struggling academically I should never lose my faith, my determination and the drive to keep going. Even if I dislike school and think its hard I must tell myself that I am grateful…
This movie was inspiration for me because it shows me how two people changed the way are either for their family or for themselves.…
The entire film was motivational. It brought history into the mix, research studies and actual lives of human beings living in the world today. The story that I found to be particularly motivational was the story of the woman diagnosed with breast cancer. When a person in our society is…
The biggest theme in the film is overcoming adversity. Its something that exists and is real in the shape of defeating your opponents. Overcoming adversity is affirmed throughout the film. Remember the Titans is another great example of overcoming adversity. The movie starts out with a black coach, replacing a white coach in rural Virginia, which was white dominated at the time. When this happened many bricks were thrown through Coach Boones’s, the black coach, house. Riots and rallies were held at the school saying to keep the blacks out.At the beginning of the movie the white players were least bit excited to join black players to play football, but as time went on, they bonded together and eventually won the state championship. Gerry, white, and Julius, black, ended up to be great friends throughout the years even though at the beginning of their friendship they were bitter rivals. A movie watcher could see the hatred in their eyes as they passed each other on the field and in the school hallway. A scene in the movie…
I thought the movie was moving, empowering and touching. One part that was really emotional for me was when the one lady was telling a story about a woman who witnessed her husband being killed and her daughter being rapped. Anyone who can go through that much pain, disaster and hardship is a strong individual. If I were in their place I don’t know how I would be able to go through all of that day in and day out and there never be a hope of it getting better. Those women though they stuck it out and prayed so much that things got better and that just shows how amazing all of them are. This movie is one…
