Executive Summary

FAB Sweets is a medium-sized, family owned and partially-unionised company that manufactures high quality candy. The company has a number of departments, one of which, “HB”, focuses on the production and packaging of the final product. This department is currently facing a number of problems that are affecting the company as a whole.
The HB department’s underlying problems include:
1. The high-level of labour turnover (i.e. six new managers in eight years).
2. Production rates consistently falling below targets; based on work study standards.
3. High levels of scrap product (candy not passing quality standards)
4. General employee job dissatisfaction
5. Supervisor to supervisor, and supervisor-employee conflicts
6. Interpersonal conflict between employees
This proves that the problematic consideration that all of the tasks are highly interdependent which means that the success and effectiveness of each team member will affect the ease with which the next person can successfully achieve his or her part of the production process.
Solving the issues outlined above is therefore crucial not only to the success of the department, the team, but the future of the FAB Sweets Company as a whole.

Introduction to the HD Department There is one general manager, 2 supervisors, and a total of 37 team members. There are 25 men working in the production department conducting hard labour with specialised tasks that are led by 1 supervisor. In the packaging department there are 12 women and 1 supervisor.

    There are many changes that could take place, the first question that was asked on the survey was regarding if the employees were satisfied or not. According to the survey seventy eight percent were satisfied. That is a good percentage of employees that are happy, it would be almost impossible to have every employee happy.
