Exam Questions a) One thing that happens in a Christian marriage ceremony is the vows being said. This is your promise to one and other. b) One reason why marriage might be important to a Christian is that they are making a sacrament to each other and to God to stay faithful and love each other no matter what. Another reason why marriage is important to Christians is that they believe a marriage is a secure environment to bring up children in. c) One belief that is reflected in a Christian marriage ceremony is that by exchanging vows you are making a promise to god and yourselves. This is a sacrament not only to you but to God also. By breaking this sacrament by committing adultery or getting a divorce you are breaking your promise that you made to god which is a sin. d) If a couple were to be considering getting a divorce, most Christians would advise them strongly not to.
If you were to ask a Roman Catholic on their views, they would all be against the idea. They believe marriage to be a holy sacrament that should never be broken. If a Catholic were to get divorced, they would find it tremendously hard to remarry in another Catholic Church. They would also believe to get divorced you have to marry, which means breaking your sacrament to God and to one and other and the words you said in your vows are not pure.
On the other hand, some Liberal Christians would accept the idea of a divorce if a person in a relationship was being abused or he/she had committed adultery. In the New Testament Jesus says it is OK to divorce. “But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.” They may also feel that because of the Ten Commandments were it states “do not commit adultery” that if someone in the relationship has committed adultery is then has Jesus’ blessing to Divorce. Some Christians would advise the couple to get marriage
