Essay On Heroic Mythology

What makes a hero? Saving someone’s life perhaps, or is it just being noble and caring for the poor like Robin Hood did. Most people who don’t actually take the time to read about or study mythology believe that a hero in mythology is a god or a supernatural most of the time. But that is not the case. There are some that can be called a demigod, these are ones that even though half god are also mostly human. A demigod could have different meaning, one being as previously mentioned, which is a being with partial or lesser divine status such as a minor deity, the offspring of a god and a mortal but it can also mean a man who is greatly admired or respected which is what both of my heroic mythology figures have had. He took a challenge to go to the underworld to retrieve his wife who has recently died from a snakebite. He reached the underworld and made his way to the royal couple Hades and Persephone to persuade Hades to give him a chance to bring his wife back to life. Hades did grant him permission on the condition that he not look at Eurydice until they reached the light of day. This kind of heroism is noble because of the love behind it at least I believe so. Theseus, an Athenian hero who freed his city from the tyranny of King Minos of Crete and his monstrous Minotaur. He did have the help of the creature’s half-sister but he was able to slay the monster and find his way out of its labyrinth. Now there are two other Mythological demigods that interest me the most in their heroic actions. Different heroism but at the same time maybe alike. Perseus for example is one of those two demigods who interest me because of his quest and how he handled it but also because of his past and the way his life was
