Elektra Products, Inc. Case Study Top management could have used the other classes, like the middle and lower level managers and the employees. The team shouldn’t have been able to be notified of “empowerment”. Also they should’ve known a positive attitude was needed in every task in order for it to be done effectively and efficiently. Mr. Griffin needs to join employees/managers from all classes to the team. Because of his lack of conceptual skills he doesn’t do this at first. He doesn’t have the cognitive ability to see the organization as a whole system. The relationship and communication within the the organization isn’t were it needs to be. Barbara could’ve included different department heads and assigned them the duty of identifying obstacles. Also she should’ve made clear that this was done at all department levels. When you empower management, you give authority to subordinate groups. That isn’t what Barbara’s team did however. Instead, they actually tried to empower the lower levels of management without including them. This will make anyone upset of course and it did. You could tell that Barbara lacked human skills because she didn’t effectively work through the lower managers effectively. She worked more as an individual with her team instead of as a group member for the firm. If she would’ve included the lower managers, there wouldn’t have been a big issue. If I were her, I would try to push toward a reform support of the other teams and I would assist Martin with the communication errors within the department. Sure you could get rid of all the negative individuals but what good with that do. Secondly, I would change the way we brought ideas to the table. Originally each team membership consisted of only one department and they brought forth their ideas for change in the department and that did help the lack of communication in the department. Lastly, Barbara could try to reconstruct or create new teams to debate the proposals of her team.
