BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Nowadays, there are so many people all over the world who use the internet to shop for goods and services. According to AcNielsen (2007), more than 627 million people in the world shop online. Many online shopping websites over the internet spread like virus that broaden peoples’ choice in terms of products ranging from clothes, shoes, jewelry, electronics, and even gadgets. People are very much likely to shop online rather than going to the malls because the items available in online are very much accessible. According to Limcaoco (2000), Filipinos experience themselves the convenience and accessibility of online shopping. That’s why online shopping has become an important part of Filipino lifestyle as well as many people’s lives. Online shopping popularity continually increases over time and it appears to be no signs of slowing down. According to Rafael (2006), online shopping popularity has much more usefulness it offers to people. It is more than just shopping but creating a whole new lifestyle of community, access to entertainment, information and much more. There are myriad of reasons why online shopping is very popular to students and professionals. According to Shwu-Ing (2003), consumers found benefits perception, comprising convenience, selection freedom, information abundance, homepage design and company name familiarity, had a significant relationship with attitude toward online shopping. The main motivation to shop online is that it is more convenient than to shop in-store; in other words, convenience is the most prominent factor that motivates consumers to shop through the internet. Moreover, ease of search, good price deal, good selection, availability, fun, impulse, customer service, and wider selection of retailers are additional reasons why people shop online (Khatibi, Haque, & Karim, 2006). Online shopping eliminates all those and can be done at any time of the day. Thus, online shopping is a time saver to students. Transaction is faster as there is no line in checkout counters. Plus, travel time is eliminated and that students can go to different sites instantly without wasting a second. Electronic coupons, discounts and comparison shopping tools are the different ways to save money when shopping online. Plus, retailers do enjoy a lot of savings themselves where they pass this savings along to the customers. Indeed, the web offers not only as a means of communication. It also offers convenient, faster and cheaper shopping to students and professionals. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
