Eco 372 Week 4
My name is Justin James Petner I am 15, and I was born on October 6, 1997 to my parents James and Christina Petner. I was born in San Diego, California, and lived there for a very brief time because my father accepted a job, which relocated us to Indiana. Upon arriving in Indiana it was just a few short years later that I was attending junior kindergarten at Forest Ridge Academy in Schererville, Indiana. Forest Ridge Academy is a private school, which host classes from junior kindergarten through 8th grade (Forest Ridge Academy, 2013). My parents chose Forest Ridge because of the small class sizes and the low teacher to student ratio (Petner, 2013). I did not really realize that I was at Forest Ridge for 10 years, but it was time for graduation on June 5, 2010(**School Report Card, 2010**). My entire graduation class, which was 21 students, was the largest graduation class in the 25-year history of Forest Ridge Academy. As my classmates enjoyed their summer off, we had chosen different paths for high school. Many students went to Marion Catholic High School, a few went to Morgan Park Academy, several other’s went to public high schools, but the most important group decided to come to La Lumiere (Petner, 2013). As a sophomore this 2013-2014 school I honestly can say that I made the right choice in La Lumiere.
My father James Petner was born October 6, 1967 ironically we share the same birthday, I was born on his 30th birthday, what a huge birthday present he always tells me. James comes from a large Catholic family where he has two brothers and three sisters. After meeting my mother my father enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served 20 years for our great country. He is currently employed as an operation/logistics manager in East Chicago, Indiana (Petner, 2013). My mother Christina Petner has only two siblings a brother and a sister, her entire family lives within a 50-mile radius. She is currently employed for H&R Block as an

    2. A principal-agent relationships involves the owners (principals) delegating decision-making authority to managers (agents). A conflict occurs when the agents pursue acceptable levels of shareholder wealth and profit rather than a maximization of profit. They are pursuing their own self-interests. One way that the agents act in their own self-interests would be by focusing on long-term job security. This could cause the agents to limit the amount of risk taken by the firm. The firm may have an opportunity that is considered a riskier venture that could produce high profits if successful. If the venture proves to be unsuccessful, then the agent is at risk of dismissal. Therefore, the agent may avoid taking advantage of that opportunity. This may also impact decisions concerning diversification and the nature of the cash flow. The actions of the agents are impacted by their compensation package, threat of dismissal, and the threat of a takeover by new owners. In order to mitigate agency problems, agents can receive either cash compensation or long-term incentives. The issue with immediate cash compensation is that it can further promote an agent to act in his or her own self-interest. For example, agents may choose a path of diversification that will result in immediate earnings. This could inflate the quarterly earnings that are directly tied to the agents’ executive bonuses that quarter, but hurt the profitability of the company and the value of the stock in the long-run. In addition, the cash compensation could work to take away from resources that could be used in the advancement of other areas of the company in order to promote growth in the company. Long-term incentives would be a better way to reward agents in order to align their interests with the interests of the principals. These incentives include restricted or deferred stock, as well as long-term performance based payments. If an agent owned…

The unemployment rate in the United States has dropped significantly ever since the economy crashed in 2008 when unemployment rapidly climbed. Unemployment is still higher than it should be but at least the rate is decreasing. On a national level the unemployment rate has dropped from 8.3% in January 2012 to 7.9% in January 2013 (United States Department of Labor, 2013). Over the past year unemployment has changed very little with an exception of a drastic decline in unemployment during the third quarter of 2012 (United States Department of Labor, 2013). According to the United States Department of Labor, more than 300 thousand persons was removed from the labor force willing and able to work; however, did not actively search for a job within the last four weeks. This contributed to the fall in unemployment rates. Employment has…

Hello, I'm Vanessa Medina, a 15-year-old ninth grader at Hamilton High School in Milwaukee. I was born on October 2, 2000. I live with my mother Amy, and sisters Adriana, Alex and Gabby. I have 2 pets, one is a Maltese dog named Buttons and a kitty my family and I rescued named Greenie. I started at a head start school called Guadalupe Head Start-Loyola at the age of 3, then went on to Fairview Charter School, and now I'm at Hamilton. I was doing great at head start because it was mostly playtime and I was outgoing, I was doing pretty good in Fairview too, but as I aged and in the 5th grade I became very introverted. I started having bad grades because I was too nervous to raise my hand for help, or to talk to people that I had known for a…

My name is Kyle and I was born on August 11, 1994 in San Ramon, California. I spent the first five years of my life in San Ramon, where I went to preschool and made many new friends. Then, in November of 1999, me and my family, which consists of 2 younger sisters, Karli and Haley, 1 younger brother, Jake (who hadn't been born yet), and my mom and dad. The reason for the move was to be closer to family, since many of our relatives lived in Sacramento, and since it would be the perfect time with me just starting kindergarten and all of my siblings still too young for preschool. After arriving in Sacramento, we spent the first few weeks staying at my grandparents house as we began looking for a house. My dad stayed back in San Ramon for a little bit as we sold the house and he still had his work in Walnut Creek, where he continues to work today as a doctor in internal medicine. My mom got a job at Bel Air as a pharmacist. After everything was figured out and we finally settled into our new house, I began my adventure into a new life. I started kindergarten at Matsuyama Elementary School and so began my elementary school life. I was extremely nervous about going to a new school where i new nobody and was very shy on the first day that i got there. I eventually…
