Diet Analysis Project

1. How does your daily caloric intake stack up compared to what is recommended? Unfortunately, after completing my diet analysis, I found out that my daily caloric intake is 1,5 times higher than it is recommended. According to the USDA website my caloric intake should be 1880 per day, by in reality it is 2972 (about 3000 per day). Now I understand why I started to gain weight, even though I don’t eat much or often. 2. What nutrients do you consume the most? Does this pattern reflect a healthy diet? Compare your results to dietary recommendations provided on the website. After reviewing my nutrient intakes, I discovered that I consume too much carbohydrates, cholesterol and sodium. While acceptable range of carbohydrates is 130, I consume about 300 per day. Similarly, instead of recommended <300 of cholesterol I consume 443. The worst situation is in my sodium intake – instead of acceptable 1500-2300 I consume 6634. As I clearly see now, my diet can not be considered as healthy, as I thought before completing this assignment. 3. Look at your results on the food pyramid. What are the sources of your calories? Should you be on the high or low side of recommended serving sizes in the categories? And why? According to My Food Pyramid I consume, I am mostly on the high side of recommended serving sizes. My protein intake takes the highest place, what I believe is not healthy because my intake is 3 times higher than it is recommended. My vegetables and fruits intake is almost equal to the recommended serving size, but it is a little bit higher. I am glad that I do a good job with these products. My grains intake is also on the high side, but I think that it is a good thing for me. The only food I am on a low side is milk intake. However, it does not affect my calcium intake which is 962.6 while the recommended range is 1000. 4. Make 4 specific dietary recommendations based on these reports. **For each recommendation, include a diet change that is based on sound nutrition. The true value of this assignment comes when your initiate your recommendations. Suggest changes that would work for you.
1) I would recommend myself to increase milk intake, to increase my calcium and Vitamin A level (which was half of what is recommended) by making milk shake with fruit juice, which use to be my favorite when I was a child.
2) I need to decrease carbohydrates (which are now 3 times higher than it is recommended) in my diet by using sweeteners with my morning tea and sugar free products, such as sugar free yogurts, candies and pies.
3) I need to decrease protein intake by decreasing quantity of meat in my diet.
4) Definitely, I need to eat less salty food such as chips, pretzels and french-fries because my sodium intake is 3 times higher than it is recommended.

The results for my new diet when compared to the recommendations from the SuperTracker are very bad indeed. I am not eating enough grains, vegetables, fruits, dairy or protein foods. An average for the amount of grains I consumed was 6 and a half ounces which is 2 servings each of these days. I consumed one and a half cup of fruits and vegetables which is about 2 servings on Saturday. I did not eat any other fruit during this three day period. I also consumed a quarter cup of dairy. From the proteins foods group, I consumed 2 and a half ounces and from the oils groups which is not a serving at all, but when this measured is about 2 teaspoons.…

My plan is to eat healthier and to lose weight so that my overall health improves. As I stated above, I am tracking my calories, proteins, fats, sugars, sodium, and carbohydrates each day. I have also been keeping track of my daily water intake. It is recommended that you drink 8 cups of water each day and I have been drinking about 5-6 cups of water a day. So, I do need to be consuming a bit more water each day. My daily calorie intake has been good; I have stayed under everyday but one since I started tracking my diet two weeks ago. Today I have…

My Pyramid was not that shocking, when I saw Grains, fruits, vegetables, milk, meat, and bean intake compared to the recommendation. Personally, it made sense of what I was meeting and what I was missing, yet, have done nothing about it. I love my grains, even though I am a celiac. I do not really follow the guidelines and still chose to eat a lot of grains. This was at 10. Oz and I met the required intake for grains. The vegetables I tend to eat are broccoli, carrots, and from time to time I eat cauliflower. So, I was at 1.2 cups of vegetables compared to the recommended intake of 4.0 cups. I already knew I hardly reach the fruit intake that happened to be zero percent. I have never been a big fruit person, besides eating apples to keep the doctors away. Got milk? Of course, I always drink my milk when I eat all the grains out of the cereal bowl. Thus, I was at 1.5 cups compared to 3.0 cups of the recommended intake. Lastly, meat and beans I was at 5.5 oz and cheated, because I ate at taco bell! Overall, the above groups did not surprise me and did show me how far I still was to reaching the food-list compared to the latest USDA Dietary guidelines.…

Other than my Cholesterol being high, I am actually right on track with the other Nutrients and Minerals. My Carbohydrates are “okay” as it say’s. I drink a lot of sports drinks so I think that’s the reason it is okay. My protein is also “okay”, I drink protein shakes everyday that I use with weight training. My total fat is “okay” as well, I try to stay away from fatty foods but It can be hard some times. When I think I need something, which I know, has a lot of fat I grab a protein bar. Which also helps with my total percent of protein. My Saturated fat is over the limit I should have. I don’t really think Saturated fats are bad but I am not a doctor. Saturated fats are derived from animal products such as meat, dairy and eggs. But they are also found in some plant-based sources such as coconut, palm and palm kernel oils. For minerals my Sodium levels are also over the target. My target…

    3 Day Diet Analysis - 2

The basic Bar graph report compared my intake values to the recommended intake values for my age, gender and activity level; overall, the comparative bar charts showed that for most of the values, I was close to the recommended amounts. However, a few nutrients that I was over consuming were protein, saturated fat, cholesterol, and vitamins B2 and B12. Other than cholesterol, all the consumption values for the other nutrients were at 200% or more. For vitamin B2 and B12, this was not too concerning, because no upper limit for these vitamins have been set yet, for toxic side effects from these vitamins have yet to be documented. The high levels of saturated fats and cholesterol in my diet most likely stem from the high amount of animal products (milk, cheese, and meat) that I consume. The overconsumption of these nutrients can increase my blood cholesterol levels, and increase my risk for cardiovascular disease. Though as I discovered through my blood analysis, I have optimal levels of blood cholesterol, which I believe is because I am an active person, and exercise regularly. With regular exercise, my muscles will be using ATP, which is produced from saturated fats, so by exercising my…

The only milk I intake is with my coffee and tea. Although I have four hot beverages a day with around 2 tablespoons of dairy, I am aware that this is no-where near the recommended 2 cups a day. On a good note however, I do not drink many sugary drinks at all- if any. Coffee, tea and water are my staple liquids therefore the sugar that I eat equals out to the sugars that I don’t drink. Drinking 2-3 glasses of water per day are less than the 6-8 glasses recommended however I do make a conscious effort to drink more on the days that I work out. I do not take in enough calories, as I burn on average 800calories and eat on any given day from 1200-1800.…

According to my three day diet analysis it seems like my eating habits are poor. Not necessarily that I am consuming too many bad foods but I am not getting the all around nutrients that I need on a daily basis. Sometimes not eating enough. Or ot finding time to eat at all is a big issue in this. Due to my job and the lack of time I have at home it is hard for me to get the nutrients I need on a daily basis. With the target that is shown of six oz. of grains two and a half cups of vegetables, two cups of fruits, two cups of dairy and five and a half oz. of protein foods I fell short in most of the areas that were targeted for me. My biggest two areas of consumption was refined grains and protein.…

My aim is to determine the relationship between the number of calories someone consumes in a day and the number of hours someone sleeps at night. Food is consumed as fuel; it contains calories that give you energy, and those calories burn off as you use them. The definition of a calorie is the amount of heat required at a pressure of one atmosphere to raise the temperature of one gram of water one degree Celsius. I want to see if the amount of “energy” someone takes in affects how they sleep.…
