the delhi gang rape involves a brutal rape and a murder that occured on 16th december 2012 in Munirka when a 23 year old female was ruthlessly beaten and gangraped by 6 men in a private bus in which she was travelling with a male friend . the victim later died of her injuries in a singapore hospital . the chief minister mrs shiela dixit told the hindu newspaper that this was a "shockingly extraordinary case " " we want to insure that the culprits are not bailed under any circumstances stringent punishment for them is the need of the hour ". therefore 6 people one of them a juvenile were put on trial for december 2012 delhi gang rape case . the man described as the main suspect of the rape case , ram singh was found dead in tihar jail , the juvenile convicted of rape and murder abd given the maximum sentence of three years imprisonment in a reform facilty. on 10th september 2013, the four maining adult defendants were found guilty of gang rape and murder and three days later were sentenced to death by hanging . following the spine chilling and horific gang rape of 23 year old in the capital of the country the question which arised after the agonized gang rape was how to stop such cases ? can the bill containing harsher punishments stop such incidents . the government had set up a panel headed by a retired judge to recommend legal reform and other ways to reduce sexual violence. justice verma committee recieved 80,000 recommendations . the new law is a combination of just thinking about gender and existing patriachal attitudes in society. but can the death penalty for rape cases curtail rape cases, the central purpose of criminal justice system is to deliver an efficient , effective , accountable and fair justice process for the public. there have been several shocking instances of rape that have given rise to the need of death penalty be prescribed as a punishment for the offense of rape so that it acts as an...
