By monitoring health and wellbeing of nurses through engagement, clinical leaders may recognize burnout symptoms and prevent high turnover. Resolution to clinical leadership issues, namely inadequate staffing, includes establishing a better working environment and increasing base salary for nurses. Positive and supportive working atmosphere improves production, safety, and quality of patient care. For instance, leaders can offer seminars to nursing staff regarding symptom self-recognition and coping mechanisms to prevent nurse burnout. These seminars would give nurses insight into identifying burnout symptoms, provide stress management tools, and empower nurses to cope with emotional distress. 886). Staff nurses spend numerous hours working directly with patients and other healthcare providers; thus, are closely familiar with daily operations of facility. Nurses’ suggestions can guide a leadership team towards positive changes benefiting patients’ health and overall experience during hospital stay. Moreover, clinical leaders can implement a buddy system among staff nurses. This system provides a sense of security and promotes a caring culture within the unit. Clinical leaders would determine nursing pairs, and rotate all employees within a unit. The paired nurses would help each other with stress management, hopefully preventing nurse burnout. A successful buddy system would nurture closer relationships between staff nurses, bridge gaps between generations, enhance communication, maintain a peaceful work environment, increase productivity, and improve patient care. Finally, new nurse generations in the workforce have a young mentality related to work, focusing on productivity instead of hours worked.     A packet that included 3 surveys in which no identification information, was attached to the payroll envelopes of the eligible nurses. These surveys took into consideration demographics, personal/ environmental characteristics, coping strategies, and exposure to traumatic events. The Professional Quality of Life Scale and the Penn Inventory were the instruments to conduct this research. The final results based on a total of 128 participants, 35.9% had scores consistent with burnout, 27.3% reported compassion fatigue, 7% reported secondary traumatic stress, and 78.9% had high compassion satisfaction. Common characteristics correlating with burnout, compassion fatigue, and secondary traumatic stress were negative coworker relationships, use of medicinals, and higher number of hours per shift. High compassion satisfaction correlated with greater strength of supports, higher participation in exercise, use of meditation, and positive coworker relationships. Caring for trauma patients may lead to BO, CF, and STS; identifying predictors of these can inform the development of interventions to mitigate or minimize BO, CF, and STS in trauma nurses.     The first tool is the Daily Hassles Scale. This tool is designed to measure the daily hassles of employees such as customer service representatives and anyone working in a high stressed job. In this particular case, this tool identifies daily hassles and the rate of burnout that call center employees undergo (Visser, 2009). The tool evaluates factors such as work overload, pressure, demands from management, repetitive nature of the work, and lack of supervisor and co-worker support (Visser, 2009). The Daily Hassles Scale also measures daily hassles on a personal level (Visser, 2009).
