Earthquake
On February 27th 2010 at 3:34 an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.8 occurred in Chile. The earthquake lasted 90 seconds and affected a total of 6 Chilean regions but the earthquake mainly occurred offshore of Maule region. The earthquake left 93% of Chile’s population with no electricity. This earthquake not only damaged Chile but it has permanently shortened the length of our days by 1.26 microseconds and moved the earth’s axis by 8 centimetres.
Tsunami
34 minutes after the Chile earthquake a tsunami occurred. The tsunami was 10 meters high when it FIRST arrived at Valparaiso, Chile. Constitución, Chile took the hardest hit from the tsunami. Tsunami warnings went out to 53 countries but only 8 countries actually received waves from the Chile tsunami.

486 people died because of the earthquake and 34 people died because of the tsunami, meaning that the population after the quake and tsunami was: 17,031,353. An estimated 1.5 million people were affected and/or displaced from the earthquake. More than 500,000 homes were damaged all over Chile, these places include: Santiago, Concepcion, and Valparaiso.
Environment
This disaster not only leaves Chilean people homeless but with pollution over top of their heads. Air pollution from the earthquake was caused by gas leaks (from vehicles, factories, etc.). The pollution was also caused by oil spills and because of the earthquake, many fires occurred resulting in loads of smoke put into the air, causing air
