Best Days of My Life
The best childhood place I would have to say is Phillip Island for me and still is my favourite place. There is this church that takes people out to fun camps each year for five days which my parents, best friend Dion and I have gone for as long as I could remember. The place we stayed at was a two story old, haunted looking building, it had long hallway that echoed every time you made any noise, a massive dinning room that could fit at least one hundred and fifty people in it and it sometimes did. There is a lounge room upstairs that had a piano that was always being smashed by kids and it has the most comfortable couches I have ever sat on in my life, once you sit on it, it sucks you in like quicksand and to get up you'd need some help. Every morning all the, what we call church leaders and some others would gather to the lounge room and sing songs and do stuff they'd do in church. Outside there is a theatre room that was used on the last night of the camp, for plays people thought up during their time at camp. There was a pond that had big fat goldfishes, I remember falling into that dirty pond water back when I was a clumsy child. There was playground that had slides, swings and a boat, being young kids my friends and I used our imagination to the limit and thought we'd be able to fix up that boat and sail it back to Melbourne all by ourselves. Everyday the leaders would make call outs to beaches, the best beach I remember going to was called Woolamai, and every time we would go to the beach, everyone wanted to go there because it was the perfect beach, no sharp shells or rocks, no slimy seaweed and big waves.

What made going to this camp so good wasn't just the place we stayed but more the type of people who went, there was a mix of manly Lebanese, Vietnamese and Somalian people and we all got along with each other. Every year Dion and I go we meet new and old friends that we don't see all year until we all meet up in front of the milk bar.

Camp Young Judaea is home, it is a community that has embraced me since I was a young child. Every summer I attend this amazing place and take in the entire camp experience, the good and the bad. Camp is where I grew up and learned many things, and I couldn’t imagine my life without it. The people that I have gone to camp with are some of my best friends, and the counselors are always there for us. The activities are always fun, and whenever we start cheering, singing, or just plain shouting, we become a close community.…

The most important thing at camp is family, we are all there for each other. Spending time also is important to our family, we’re only able to get together every summer. What was important was we all got along and we did everything together like singing, activities, euchre, formation and meals. Everytime I go back, I feel like i’m home and where I should be. This place is where all my memories had to be…

I remember when I arrived to campus, there were so many people and none of us knew each other. The teacher that received us were so pedantic, it made it awkward at the beginning. The camp was ten days. For some of the kids, it was their second or even third time at SuperCamp. They were in a special…

This year camp was at jamberoo and it was awesome!!!! I got up at 6:15 in the morning to get my suitcase and go down to school for a 7:15 school bus ride to jamberoo. when we got there we got into our tribes. Mine was the yellow tribe and our instructor was called Laura the explora. she was really fun and nice. We had so much fun!!! We all had cabins with 3 people in it and I had Angus & jack. We all slept so well with our heated blankets and then we had an amazing breakfast buffet where you could have cereal, bacon, eggs, hash browns, toast and a choice of orange or apple juice, it was sooooooooooo nice. We could get up at 7:00 in the morning for a bushwalk then come back for breakfast then do some activities before lunch. The activities included a really fun one called the eagle’s nest where you had to climb a really tall tree with a harness and then jump off from the top and then land on the ground. Another activity was one called the giant swing where the rest of your tribe pull you up in a harness really high off the ground then you have to pull a green string and you fall for about 2 seconds then you start to swing up really high then come back down and keep on going until you stop. You feel so cool and weird at the same the time. There was also an activity called sock wrestling where your instructor straps you up to this long rope high off the ground with these tags in your shoes with another person and then they spin you and you let go and have to battle for each others tags. I did it 2 times and after that I nearly threw up! In our cabin we only had 3 people but had 5 beds with heated blankets!!!!!! It was soooo warm!!! Jamberoo was an awesome camp and I wish we could go there…

We instantly connected after a few minutes of conversation and we continued to introduce ourselves to everyone on our floor. As the night went on, everyone was finding who they fit in with, and my roommate and I became very close with three girls down the hall. Throughout the course of the week, we ate our meals and attended the nightly activities together. When I met my running group for the week,we were all able to make relationships with each other because we all shared the same ability for our passion. Running together twice a day, sharing memories and tips made us realize we were all like long lost teammates. Throughout the whole week of camp, I learned so much about myself that I never knew. A different side of me was able to unleash without the familiarity of my family, friends, and hometown. During my childhood, I never had the chance to make relationships with people completely on my own, and knowing I could do that so easily made me realize I am a lot more independent than I ever thought I was. Attending this camp gave me the confidence to be on my own, try new things and not let fear keep me from experiencing new places and people. I grew tremendously as a person throughout my seven days at camp, and it gave me reassurance that I am ready for the next chapter of my life. Summer camp is a fun way to get away from home for a week for most teenagers. For me, I was able to prepare myself for the road ahead and it gave me the certainty that I am ready for…

I had never met any of these people before, but I could just see the happiness radiating off of each of them. I was originally not assigned to anyone. They had planned for me to be a floater and help people that needed it, but a camper in my cabin, Justin, was just a little too much for his counselor, so they asked me to take over. I was honestly very excited. My nervousness had completely evacuated my system when Justin and I started talking. Justin was 24 and was physically able with slight mental issues, but he was very entertaining for the other campers. I can’t tell you how many times he talked about sneaking out to see his new “girlfriend” he had made earlier that day. Justin’s cabin mates thought he was a hoot and it was great to see them get along. That was the greatest part about Camb Able. It was never about doing what you wanted, or talking to who you wanted to, it was always about the camper. I know that may seem a little intense and unpleasant, but when a camper comes to you and tells you how much they are enjoying camp and being with you, it is a pure bliss. Knowing how greatly you can impact a life by only spending 4 days with someone is life-changing. Another amazing thing about Camp Able is that realizing we are all the…

I loved growing up in my neighborhood. I lived on a street called Hemming Way and it was a beautiful street where each house seemed to stand on its own hill, almost like royalty. My house was a deep dark red and it had bright green grass out front and a beautiful garden that consisted of roses, dandelions, and jasmines. There were trees and mountains everywhere and early in the morning right after a rainfall, it smelled of pine from the trees. I have so many sweet memories growing in that neighborhood, but my most fond memories were playing with the neighborhood kids. There were 11 kids on my bock and we would play from sun up to sun down. Some of my favorite activities such as riding bikes, jumping on the trampoline and playing hide and seek were so fun and exciting, that they will always remain precious memories.…

When I began attending this camp, I had just finished seventh grade and was incredibly shy. At school I had kept most of the same friends I had from elementary school, and I hadn’t made many new friends at the first overnight camp I had gone to. I was nervous that this summer would be the same, especially when I first arrived and my counselor told me that there were no other new campers in the bunk that summer. However, my new bunkmates immediately surprised me with their eagerness to show me around camp, learn all about me, and invite me into their social circle. I stayed up until dawn my first night, whispering to and giggling with two girls I had met…

We stayed in the same house almost every time we went. The beach was in walking distance from the house and there was a small shower outside to wash off any sand you have left on you. There was a pool in the back. When we weren't at the beach we were in the pool. I loved that beach so much, even though we never go to it anymore. The long grass along a wooden bridge leading you to the beach, the calm waves, the seagulls always trying to take your food. There was almost never a boring time when we were there. As soon as we got to the beach my brother and I would kick off our flip flops and ran across the burning hot sand and jump into the water. My grandpa would set up a huge umbrella over the towels my mom had laid out. The waves would crash right…
