Being Late: Not Acceptable

Satisfactory Essays
Nancy ng (effects) As a student, there is no excuse for us to be late for school. Being late is not acceptable. It’s because late arrival not only affects the person, but also other people. For the person who is late, he/she will miss the morning assembly. There may be some important announcement and he/she will not know it. If late arrival becomes a habit, the effects will be more serious. Workers may easily lose their job if they aren’t punctual. Lateness can also affect other people. For example, the school office has to check your record every day. Your teachers or friends may have to teach you what you have missed out. The prefects who are responsible to record late arrivals may be late for lessons. So actually students who are late do not respect our school rules, teachers and their classmates. It’s acceptable if you are late for school 1-2 times a year. But there is no excuse for lateness on a regular basis.
(Carnegie mellon university) (reasons)

Understanding the reasons, however, does not require tolerating the behavior.

Students’ expectations are out of line with the instructor’s.
Students don’t recognize how their lateness affects others.
Students don’t perceive the beginning of class as important.

Some people would describe being on time as 'old fashioned', but it's not in the slightest way 'old-fashioned', because actually it's nothing to do with 'fashion' or 'generation'. It's got all to do with basic good manners and respect for other people. Nowadays, a meeting set to start at 8am, seems to mean for some people in the general vicinity of any time which starts with the numeral 8. Like 8:30am for example.
