Professionalism plays an important role in the work place. It helps the organizations to run with high efficiency when people respect and follow up the policies. Besides, professionalism affects our impression and credibility. Each individual should have good professional skills because they are representatives of the organization.
According to Epstein and Hundert, “professionalism is a competency as the habitual and judicious use of communication, knowledge, technical skills, clinical reasoning, emotions, values, and reflection in daily practice for the benefit of the individual and community being served.” (Defining and assessing professional competence). The ability of healthcare professions to maintain professionalism is very important to build the patient relationship. Patients will judge us base on their impressions on our professionalism.
Someone would think that communication or verbal is the most important key in the interaction between healthcare professions and patients besides the specialized knowledge. However, non- verbal behaviors play a special role to show our respect to patients. The physical appearance of nonverbal behavior includes all aspects of the way we look and what we wear. Physical appearance is the first thing patients see and judge us before they approach the treatments. The better dressed we are, the

What in particular contributes to professionalism? LaSala and Nelson state that: “appearance, behavior, and communication have a cumulative effect on the professional image” (2005). A professional appearance reflects an impressionable message in which a patient may feel more secure in your ability to care for them, as it appears you are able to care for yourself. Professional behavior is necessary in order to convey a role of influence. In order for a nurse to effectively educate, she herself must model positive health promotional practices and avoid damaging convention. Additionally, “posture and body language are one influence on others’ perception of competence” (LaSala, Nelson, 2005). Professional communication is vital to a nurse’s credibility. Whether spoken or written, “An individual who uses language skillfully and appropriately reflects intelligence and knowledge” (Arnold and Boggs, 2004).…

According to Epstein and Hundert (as cited in Kirk, 2007) “Professional competence is the habitual and judicious use of communication, knowledge, technical skills, clinical reasoning, emotions, values, and reflection in daily practice for the benefit of the individual and community being served,”. Practising professional competence as defined by Epstein and Hundert (as cited in Kirk, 2007) demands an inherent knowledge of both my strengths and weaknesses: being self-aware. A proper evaluation of my competence level in practice demands a high level of self-awareness, in the Nursing and Midwifery council [NMC] code (2015) working within my competence level is key to preserving patients’…

Everyone has a different meaning of the word professionalism. Some people believe professionalism means dressing smart and/or appropriate for work and doing a good job. Others believe it means that you have many degrees. Merriam-Webster states professionalism as “the competence or skill expected of a professional, and it defines a professional as “a person engaged or qualified in a profession.” To me a professional has major knowledge in the field that he or she studied for. They have certifications and degrees for a specific job. To me a professional is someone who gets a job done to any extent. Anyone can trust this person with any task. Time and Professionalism

What is professionalism? There are many different forms of professionalism depending on whose opinion of professionalism it is. I will go with my opinion of professionalism. For the thirty years of my life I must say, I have learned a lot about my experiences in life. I’ve learned from myself, I have learned from my friends, and I have learned from mere strangers. I have seen people succeed in their goals. I have seen people fail in their goals. Failing doesn’t mean that you can’t try again. I believe we learn from our mistakes or if you possibly can, learn from others before you commit the same mistake. Well, I have come to a great conclusion. Professionalism plays a major, a very important role in succeeding in life despite of what goal you are trying to reach. To become a doctor there comes a need for a great amount of professionalism. To become a stockbroker, there is a need for people with nothing but a great mind and professionalism. Even to become a professional football player, despite of the great skills you may have to catch a 60 yard pass for a touchdown, there is still a great amount of professionalism expected from that professional wide receiver. Professionalism comes in many different aspects. The first most important aspect of being professional is the mere first image that you present yourself with. I say professionalism starts with your dress code and hygiene. The first detail you will put out to a person meeting you the first thing is that of how you are dressed. You should be dressed up for the occasion you are presenting yourself for. In an interview for example, a man should be dressed with a dark suit with a plain matching tie and decent shoes, also with his hair groomed. The second most important aspect of being professional is how you present yourself! Yes, you may be well groomed, with a perfect elegant suit but, if you do not have the perfect elegant professional attitude, the attire well, does not mean a thing.…

To me, professionalism means a sense of maturity. If I was looking to hire someone that was “professional,” the first thing that I would be looking for is someone that does not think of themselves being greater than everyone else. The good thing about this is that maturity is usually easy to spot. Especially this day in age, the way people dress and talk can easily set them apart. Employers today want to find people that give off a sense of maturity from the moment they walk through the interview door to the shake of the hand at the end. I have always thought of myself as being mature, but one time I can specifically remember acting professionally was at my high school Kairos retreat. I first went as a candidate, and then I was chosen…

The topic of professionalism seems quite broad and daunting. It is hard to describe in a sweet little sentence or even a three paged double spaced paper. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition of professionalism is, “the skill, the judgement, and polite behavior that is expected from a person who is trained to do a job well (2015).” So what does that mean? Professionalism is many things to many people and may include the way we behave and the actions we make. Key to exhibiting professionalism is maintaining a positive attitude that shows respect and acceptance towards others at all times and under all circumstances.…

Punctuality shows that you are responsible, trustworthy and can follow directions. Punctuality isn't just an order that the Army requires, but also a good personal trait that is a reflection of a person’s character, it shows that you have personal integrity and self-discipline. While some of us are occasionally late due to circumstances beyond our control, habitual tardiness shows a lack of respect for other people and their time. If someone is late continually that shows that they more then likely do not care about what their NCO tells them. Time is a precious gem that should not be wasted at any cost. If you don't use your time wisely, you can never get it back. It is a very special resource in that you cannot store it or save it for later. Promptness is not only a duty, but is also a part of good manners, it is favorable to fortune, reputation, influence, and usefulness. Lack of punctuality is a theft of someone else's time and a complete lack of respect for others. You should be punctual in everything you do. Punctuality goes hand in hand with military discipline. Recruits are taught to obey, immediately and without question, orders from their superiors, right from the day one of boot camp. Military discipline and effectiveness is built on the foundation of obedience to orders. This is why we are supposed work so well as a team. By following orders from the more…
