Courses Aims and Objectives. Venepuncture is an invasive procedure that is commonly performed in Hospital and can be carried out by a range of suitably trained health-care professionals as outlined in University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) venepuncture policy. Aim. Aim. You will be prepared to practice the skill of venepuncture safely and competently in your workplace under appropriate clinical supervision according to UHL Policy, until you are deemed competent to practice independently. Objectives Recognise the important legal, professional and ethical issues related to Venepuncture. Demonstrate effective communication skills with the patient throughout the entire procedure. To identify and be aware of any issues when selecting a vein for Venepuncture. To understand the rational for selecting the most clinically appropriate gauge of cannula for Venepuncture. To develop your knowledge of anatomy and physiology related to Venepuncture.. To allow you to demonstrate how to prepare a patient for Venepuncture. To allow you demonstrate knowledge and application of the principles of aseptic non touch technique (A.N.T.T) relating to Venepuncture. To provide you with an opportunity to complete appropriate documentation relating to Venepuncture. Discuss and demonstrate the application of relevant UHL policies. Complete a base line LCAT / DOP’s assessment in the workshop.
