Ralph Waldo Emerson once said “To be yourself in a world that is trying to make you something else is a great accomplishment”. A question such as “who am I”? Really gives me the opportunity to differentiate and express who I really am and who I can be. I am not a complex person who thinks the world is against me, nor am I overly sophisticated “know-it-all” who doesn't take time to pay attention to my surroundings. I can't say that I am like every other person because there are certain things that make me a unique individual. What I can say is that I am progressing towards a brighter future.…
Not many are lucky to have paid all their debt by the time they graduate. Colleges and universities have given students the ability to work around the campus in order to pay for their education. Although this seems like a positive effect to help students pay and try to minimize debt, work is bound to get in the way of education. As students worry about having money in their pockets and scavenge any type of job they can find in or around the campus, they put aside their studies and their capability to perform in class is diminished. In his article, Hoover is able to capture a statement made by Ashley Dawson, an English professor at the College of Staten Island, regarding how work affects students ability to work in class and colleges maintaining…
I work hard to get my education and everything I do in life. In student affair, hard work is necessary in order to education the student, make positive changes, and continue the life learning.…
Who am I? A question everyone at some point will ask themselves, certainly a question many people have attempted to provide an answer to on your behalf. Self Identity is recognizing one’s potential and qualities as an individual. In a nutshell, who you are is your Self Identity. In Geronimo Johnson’s Hold It ‘Til It Hurts, Achilles, a young man who just finished service in Afghanistan, struggles to identify who he is and what his role is in life among others. He is constantly second guessing his motives and therefore doesn’t have a true understanding for who he is and what he wants for his future. Achilles depends on the attention of others…
After saying that you need to work super hard, many people draw the wrong conclusion that in order to succeed in school, you have to work every single second and there is no time to enjoy life. That is not the point of what I’m trying to say. I mean, yes. You do have to work hard. However, you still need to relax. Stressing out your brain too much over school is unhealthy. I know for a fact that it was scientifically proven that having too much stress can cause a person to become sick physically and/or mentally. Obviously, if you started to become sick frequently, you would miss school as a result and it will be hard for you to catch up in your classes! (Trust me, I have learned this the hard way as well.) So it’s also very important that you just relax at times and have fun. (Note: THIS DOES NOT MEAN PRIORITIZING FUN OVER YOUR…
Everybody have the power to constructs their identity but most of the people construct it by looking at one’s own life. But, first you have to know who you are for find your-self identity.…
For a great majority of my life, I have been torn between who I want to be, who I should be and who I am. I still couldn’t tell you who I am, but I can say that I have somewhat of an idea. This indecisiveness started during middle school, when I quit cheerleading. Since I was young, I knew I wanted to be an all-star cheerleader, or at least I thought I did. After years of hard work and dedication to my cheer squad, I quit cheerleading in the 7th grade.…
Now at days, students are given an unbounded supply of after school work.. Alice, a sixteen year old student from Washington D.C. says that she often has about 4 hours of homework each night(Jesella). Added to the approximately 7 hours of school, she spends 12 hours a day working. In comparison, the average adult works approximately 8 hours a day. How are we students supposed to enjoy our youth if we spend more time working than our parents? Also, agonizing amounts of homework can take a gigantic toll on a student’s health. The weight of a high schooler's bookbag can fuel their back pains for years. Furthermore, the mental stress can leave a student sleepless and grouchy. (No wonder why most of us teenagers are so cranky most of the time!) The stress of homework can even be the reason of why students start cheating. According to a 2005 study of 1800 students conducted by Donald McCabe of Rutgers University, more than 60 percent of students admitted to have committed some sort of plagiarism(McAdams). The mental stress caused by an overly unnecessary amount of…
The quest for personal discovery is a journey which every individual must undergo. The development of a sense of self is one of the greatest achievements one can derive from life. Identity is made up of a constellation of characteristics, none more essential than the sense of belonging we feel with others. Humans by nature are social creatures and as such, we all have an instinctual desire for acceptance and community. This is part of the human condition. However, belonging is also dependent on our own sense of identity. Where we belong will often be determined by who we are which is why what we truly search for is a delicate equilibrium between identity and belonging. Without establishing where we belong and who we are, we cannot accomplish an ultimate sense of happiness and fulfilment.…
I honestly don't have the words to describe how I feel. I Know I am extremely blessed with family and friends who love me more than I will ever know. I have a place to call home, a warm bed to sleep in every night, and food to eat. I am truly happy and thankful for all the blessings God has given me, but yet on days like today I feel lost. I do things and honestly don't even know who I am. Maybe it's just a stage that everyone goes through, but recently I have found myself asking, "Who am I?" more and more often.…
I used to see myself as just another person in the world, never did it occur to me "who I am". To understand "who I am", I first need to know what my attitude and personality are. I view myself as a person with a positive attitude as well as a hardworking and understanding personality.…
So think, what is your best aspect that makes you, you? Most of the time, that is your reason of mattering. The second question I am going to answer is ‘Who will you be later on in life?’ There are two main jobs and careers that would be…
Students’ responsibilities are simply to put in the hard works it takes. It is not always easy to do well in school. All that challenge and problems many already have in advance. All that can make hard to focus on the school, but there Is no excuse for not trying. All have something they are good at, but you don’t know it, if you don’t try. Many people also get the sense that you can be rich and success without any hard work. That is not right, and the truth of success is simply hard work. Some of the most successful people in the world are the ones, who had most failures. They worked hard and never quit. The failures only make you stronger and teach you how not to do. No one bourns being good, you become good trough hard work.…
Many people seem to believe that college students have it really easy. When I was in high school, I couldn’t wait until I graduated. Everyone always told me that college was so much fun, and it was so much…
