Thomas Hobbes was born prematurely on April 5th of 1588 in Westport, England. He had once said, "My mother gave birth to twins: myself and fear." Thomas Hobbes Sr, Hobbes’ father, was vicar of the local parish and had abandoned his family. He left behind his three children to his brother. Hobbes talked about ideas being derived from sensation and how people see an object and it causes a pressure on the sense organ. Hobbes described this as a resistance. Hobbes also believed that colors abide in the perceives and not in the objects themselves. In other words, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Hobbes described many ideas in The Elements of Law. Hobbes continued to have many achievements throughout his ninety years (Ironically he had once said life is nasty, brutish, and short). He published De Corporewas in 1655, De Homine in 1658, and completing the Elements of Philosophy trilogy. Thomas’s concepts formed the foundation for nearly every Western ideas on politics. He continued to mold society till his stroke on December 4th of 1679. Many people go unremembered, Thomas Hobbes is not one of those people. Even in his first few years he fought a battle familiar to many individuals today. Hobbes didn’t let his absent father bring him down. Instead he attended Oxford and studied among many great mines. Thomas taught people as well and let them introduce him to new frontiers. Thomas worked in politics and philosophy. There are few men who are on the same level as Hobbes.
