CHAPTER 1: The Problem and its Background

1. Introduction

Many students find it difficult to accept Math. They say it’s hard and stressful. Math usually is hard but it won’t be if you try to understand it. It is the fear, influence, teachers and problems that might affect their view on Math.

Fear because they are scared to make a mistake and was everything up. Fear is only made by the mind, it is just an illusion yet many people grasp this illusion and fall victim to it. Fear can be vanished by thinking positive; Math is nothing to fear instead it’s something that we should accept in our life. Math is everywhere in our daily life every day we encounter it.

Influence because our behavior and attitude are influenced by our family, friends, classmates, and every people around us. Influence is something that concerns about how other peoples, trait, lobby and lines is being transferred to us. If one of our closest friend says that Math is hard we will easily believe in them because of influence.

My prediction for this article was that kids are sometimes really scared of numbers and that’s why they don’t do well in math. The article never really said that but for me I think the author put “Fear of Numbers” as the title since some people don’t understand math and they don’t want to be looked down on in society, since it’s embarrassing if you don’t know if you have enough money for a coffee. But if I was the one who wrote this I’d call it “Suiting the Student” since they say kids don’t learn math because of the teachers and how they teach it. So if they teach it to suit the student they’d actually learn it.…

Influence, the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something. There is a good chance that most of us have been influenced by someone or something throughout our lifetime. We all offer the ability to influence, and to be influenced.
