1. Discuss social capital and the impact of social connections and relationships on opportunities for autonomy. What challenges and disparities contribute to supports for aging in place? Social capital is a form of economic and cultural capital in which social networks are central, transactions that are marked by reciprocity,trust, and cooperation, and market agents produce goods and services not mainly for themselves, but for a common good.Both autonomy and closeness are natural human needs.I believe that, this concept is the opposition between union and individuality. The types of multigenerational households can be.Three-generation which is the most common multigenerational household arrangement this consists of three generations typically one or more working-age adults, one or more of their children, and either aging parents or grandchildren. Grandfamilies are another type multigenerational households these are also growing numbers of grandfamilies that is, households headed by an older individual or couples who live with grandchildren under age 18.Two adult generations are most two generation households which consist of parents and children under the ages of 18 to 22. However, there are households with grown children still living with their parents. Because of unemployment, underemployment or other reasons they tend to return to their childhood household. What home and community-based services exist to support older adults in the community? What approach do these services take to provide care? The term “home and community-based long-term services and supports”refers to assistance with daily activities that generally helps older adults and people with disabilities to remain in their homes. Some approaches that these services take to provide care will be Medicaid Funding, personal care services program, home health care, Older Americans Act Funding and State Funding.
4. What future challenges lay ahead for aging in place? What issues need to be addressed and how can we help older adults to be autonomous at home and in the community? The challenges and opportunities of an aging population are beginning to transform our homes and neighborhoods.
In the future we will not have enough affordable, appropriate housing and services to meet the needs of a population that includes significant numbers of very old Americans. Older adults strive to maintain their independence and autonomy in a safe living environment. There are three main types of living environments for aging adults independent living, assisted living, and nursing homes. In order for older adults to be autonomous at home and in the community they will need to be more active in their community if they are already
