U2 has been a staple in the rock and alternative rock industry since the 1980’s. Formed in 1976, the band started out with little music experience but blossomed into an international hit. Most of their songs contain a message or theme to a current event or an ongoing issue in the world of in one of their lives. The vocals of Bono are complimented nicely by the rest of the band. Their experimentation with new sounds and effects has created an almost sub-genre of rock. U2 is the greatest band of all time because they have connected generations and appeal to a wide variety of audiences.

With over 12 albums, U2 has the most impressive discography of any band from the 80’s; not to mention their numerous live albums. U2 has sold more than 170 million albums worldwide. U2 has 22 Grammy’s which is tied for the most ever with Stevie Wonder. This puts them as the best band of all time. U2 was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. U2’s achievements and awards distinguish themselves from other rock bands and prove why they are the best all time.

U2 has the most unique sound in all of rock. They put a heavy emphasis on melodic instruments and big vocals. Their sound is contested by anyone and that’s what makes them so great. Throughout the years, U2 has changed their sound which proves how much talent they have. They have kept their fans on their toes. Most of U2’s songs carry a strong message. For example, one of U2’s best hits named, “Pride (In the Name of Love)” is about Martin Luther King. Mick Jagger described Bono’s lyrical genious best when he said, "He's a poet. He's a philosopher. And last night, I think I saw him walking on water." The power and message of their lyrics are what separates them from other bands. Their lyrics and sounds make them the best band of all time.
