Reflection on Goodnight and Good Luck

Goodnight and Good luck, a dramatic film directed by George Clooney, illustrates the life of an Icon; an American Broadcast Journalist, Edward R Murrow. In 1953 he was one of the best-known newsmen on television by hosting an informative show on CBS. The show informed people of Joseph McCarthy; a U.S senator from Wisconsin who had a powerful influence on America, and how he is charging Milo Radulovich, an air force pilot, of being a communist. The story illustrates the clash between Murrow and McCarthy after Murrow attacks McCarthy and is then accused of being a communist too. There is no real evidence that Murrow is communist which leads to the topic of the story, which is that wild accusations of people being communists are being thrown everywhere with little or no evidence.

McCarthy had information of communist pervading the U.S government and many people were being accused with little and misleading evidence. An individual with any out unordinary background had gotten themselves in serious conflict at the time. These acts I believe are outrageous. This is how Murrow was accused of this crime, and McCarthy did have some evidence to prove it so, however, Murrow did not follow these beliefs and had been a loyal American for nineteen years.

At the time of watching this movie, an idea popped in my head. The idea was that Goodnight and Good luck connected to The Crucible in the way that innocent people were tried and hung for witchcraft with little evidence, just like innocent people were accused of being communist’s. In addition, in the red scare people were accused of Reds if they went on strike and being unpatriotic. In all three of these events, innocent people were robbed of their rights and accused of being something they were not.

In America today, a similar event is occurring. In Arizona, anyone who is of the Hispanic race can be immediately pulled over for the reason of simply being Hispanic, therefore, possibly being an illegal immigrant. They can...
