Personal Narrative: A Career As A Teacher's Assistant
As a teacher's assistant, I have learned how important it is to help students with exceptionalities in order to provide them with a comfortable and enjoyable learning experience. An experience that stands is that of a particular student who suffered from anxiety issues and was unable to build or maintain interpersonal relationships. This obstacles were critical in preventing the student from learning and as a result, I worked with the primary educator to develop ways in which we could have best helped this student. I had realized that this was more than just about being an educator, but to also ensure that this student would improve outside of school. This is something that is important for an educator: to help your students in every aspect

The reason my academics aren’t going well as you or I would like is because of the several family issues I’ve had to face during my high school career. It began my Sophomore year, I found out my mom needed surgery in her arm so the chances of her cancer spreading would be reduced. I was under a great deal of stress worrying about my mother, taking care of my four siblings making sure they knew everything was going to be okay, even though I wasn’t sure myself. It was all up to me; while my other brother worked to help with bills, my mom being in the hospital, and my dad working. Taking care of my siblings consisted of cooking, homework, cleaning, nightly routine, and putting them to bed. When the work was done it would be around 10 o'clock. It was already tough to buckle down and focus on homework without all the stress. With all this my first semester grade was less than great.…

Sounds pretty similar to the agency I work for but it sounds like you had a lot more training then we did. Oddly, I was never asked or told to shadow anyone however, I did have a few nurses shadow me. I asked these nurses about it and they told me they weren’t getting paid for their time and I thought that was a little bizarre. I’m guessing that many agencies do not pay people for training after hearing your experience was similar to…

As I was looking for a Physician Assistant program I focused on three main things: research, prestige, and location. I was fortunate enough to discover that Yale PA program exceeded my expectations. As a clinical research assistant, I have had the pleasure to work with great clinicians (doctors and physician assistants alike) who have graduated from Yale Medical School and Yale PA program. Their perseverance, ability to react efficiently and decisively in difficult situations are some of the many qualities that Yale highlights and solidifies in its programs. Furthermore, shadowing one of the physician assistants who graduated from the Yale program gave me a better insight on the rigorously, expectations, and preparations of Yale PA program.…

To fulfill my three-hour field experience, I observed in Kristen Yenchak’s Emotional Support (BASD) classroom at Bloomsburg Middle School, on September 21, 2016 from 11:00am – 3:00pm. Kristen Yenchak’s classroom was made up of nine students ranging from sixth to eighth grade. There were also two paraprofessionals in the classroom to help students when they came to the class and also go and assist students while they are in general education classes. By having two paraprofessionals and one teacher in the classroom it allowed for the class to have instructional sizes of 1:1 or 1:3. All nine students except for one student only came to the class for homeroom, one other period of the day, and right before dismissal. The only other time these students…

The little girl that I tutored was named Helen. She is a Hispanic student in first grade. She is very quiet and I had a hard time getting information from her. But what she did tell me was that she lives with her mother and father and she said she had siblings but I couldn’t get a clear answer from her as to how many. From what she said, I think she has several brothers. She said that her father doesn’t stay with them all the time, so I don’t know if her parents are divorced or if he just goes away to work sometimes. A lot of the Hispanics that I know from home do tend to work in industries that require them to travel a lot. Her parents are from Mexico, her mother speaks fluent English but her father only speaks a little bit of English. She has just as good, if not better English than the rest of the children in her class, so there is no language barrier. She is bilingual so she speaks English and Spanish.…

During my educational journey specifically at the high school, my goal was to be a best student in our year group. But I could not achieve it. I could not achieve it because, I thought I could do all my academical alone. I could not management my time well and also reframe myself from leadership and other peer responsibilities. With this behavior, I could not have much information about what is going around on campus and the available platforms to learn and explore more.…

Not every day you can get this type of information from a worker. She also informed me on the good and the bad qualities of her job and why she appreciates both because both have shaped her to be the best Resident Assistant she can be through experiences. My educational goals can be said to be broken down into three parts that are really the means to my ends which is the fourth and most important goal. First, Im working on getting good grades in every class, I want to work on having and maintaining a high competitive GPA. My second goal is to get my Bachelors in Political Science in an ideal time frame of two more years. My third goal and one that is out of my hands, one may say, is getting a scholarship. I know there is a large amount of competitive students in the school, who are well deserving of scholarships but I need this scholarship to alleviate my parents from their stress and hard work to keep up with my payments. My education will never be complete. This knowledge affords me the ability to grow each and every day. It teaches me to question the world and to learn from these questions. I learn through different lenses and circumstances I experience each day. At seventeen, I am nowhere near complete. I am young. I am flawed. I am naïve. What I have learned has led me down different paths in order to achieve different milestones on my own journey. I am strong. I am creative. I am poised...but most importantly I am learning. My education has allowed me to learn about myself, about others, and about the world. I am evolving through the educational process and through the effort of acquiring knowledge. I have no idea what I will learn tomorrow --some days…

    Are Labels Good for Kids

The rise in labeling students with exceptionalities in our school systems has subsequently led to an increase in the number of special education classes and programs in public schools. The question remains as to whether these programs are arising for the right reasons. Scott Shannon, a medical doctor, stated that he, “Believed that the proliferation of mental and emotional disorders . . . reflects our tendency and willingness to find illness where there may be simple difference.” Labels can either serve to benefit or threaten a child’s learning experience. People neglect to realize that a child’s experiences or buildup of stress may have been brought on by a learning disability. I believe that children should not be labeled by their exceptionalities or disabilities, because that label comes with the stigma of being considered deficient or different than everyone else.…

My responsibilities, some of which are unpaid and voluntary, include creating examinations, performing dissections, holding review sessions and tutoring students in anatomy. This role requires a thorough understanding of the course content and continuously enhancing the knowledge I have accumulated in my master program. Understanding that each student I work with may have a unique learning style, I also hope to improve my teaching and communication…
