Mary, the Mother of Jesus
Mary, The Mother of Jesus

By Angelus Djugash

Virgin Mary

Jesus is God. Jesus was born to Mary. Mary is the mother of God. St.Luke introduces Mary when the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a virgin betrothed to a man Joseph (Lk: 1:26-27). The virgin’s name was Mary. Virgin means that one does not know human love, but only the love of God. It means that one has no other thought but for the Lord. It means to remain children in the flesh and angels in the heart. It means that one has no eyes but to look at God, and ears to listen to Him, and a mouth to praise Him, hands to offer oneself as a victim, feet to follow Him fast, and a heart and a life to be given to Him.(1)
Mary is the Virgin. She is the Only One. She is the perfect One. The Complete One. Conceived as such. Generated as such. Remained such. Crowned such. Eternally such. She is the Virgin. She is the acme of intangibility, of purity, of grace that is lost in the Abyss from which it emerged: in God: most perfect Intangibility, Purity, Grace. (2)

Mary, Seat of Wisdom God created Heaven and Earth. Jesus, Son of God is the author of Wisdom. Virgin Mary gave birth to Jesus. Thus Mary becomes the mother of Wisdom.

King Solomon prophesied Mary in a figurative style by the word wisdom. We read in Proverb “ God possessed me (Mary) at the beginning of His works, from the beginning, before the Creation. From everlasting I was firmly set, in the beginning, before earth came into being, the deep did not yet exist, I was already conceived” in the minds of God. (3)

“For in Mary there is a spirit that is intelligent, holy, unique, manifold, subtle, mobile, clear, unpolluted, distinct, invulnerable, loving the good, keen, irresistible, beneficent, humane, steadfast, sure, free from anxiety, all-powerful, overseeing all, and penetrating through all spirits that are intelligent and pure and most subtle.

For she is a breath of the power of God, and a pure emanation of the glory

Mary Rowlandson also compares herself to David in Psalms 27. 13. I had fainted, unless I had believed. She is talking about when she arrived in the Indian town, Wenimesset. Mary saw that it was filled with Pagans, who she considered her enemies (223). In her thirteenth remove Mary compared herself with Job once again, Have pitty upon me, have pitty upon me, O ye my Frends, for the Hand of the Lord has touched me. She states, “I thought I had been quite blinded...that by the morning, I had recovered my sight again(234).” Mary feels like she is blessed because when things start going downhill she is picked back…

Mary felt that one of the many reasons God put her back on the earth was to be with her husband through the tragic event of her son passing away. God took care of her family through so many lamentable events throughout their life ,and they knew that He would be there for the rest. Mary did not know the future of her life, but knew that if you just let God have the steering wheel then everything would be ok. I was extremely pleased with this book because it shows that if you just let God have control of your life, and if you have faith in Him, everything will turn out sufficiently.…

The creator, Yahweh made the heavens and the earth. It is said that Yahweh took dust from the moist land and shapes it into the shape of man. He breathes the breath of life into man and he comes to life. Yahweh is the creator of all things from the Garden of Eden, to the rivers that flow from the four corners of the world. He is also the creator of the Garden of Eden, the tree of life, and the tree knowledge of good/evil. One day after watching man, he decides that man should have a help-mate. He causes man to fall into a deep sleep and remove one of his ribs, creating woman. The man was Adam (earth or clay) and the woman name was Eve (life). The myth goes on to state how Adam and Eve eats the apple from the tree of knowledge after the serpent deceives them. In addition, eating the apple opens their eyes to the knowledge of good and evil. They are then ban from the Garden of Eden. Yahweh curses the serpent, Adam, and Eve. He places a half-human,…

The prophecy of the coming Messiah, who was sent by God and sacrificed for all the sins of the world as well as the Immaculate Conception of the virgin Mary are two of the most popular stories of the Bible. The story of Jesus’ journey on earth began with the appearance of the angel Gabriel to Mary as she was engaged to a carpenter named Joseph. The angel informed Mary that God chose her to be the mother of the Son of God (History of Jesus Christ, n.d.).…

The transformation of Mary, as being the simple, loving and caring, wife and expectant mother, has the reader question what may have happened to this character. How could she change so fast? Mary's Perpetual Virginity

As with all other dogmas, it is known that popes take a stand on certain topics involving the Church. In this case, popes like Pope Paul IV have stated, “The same Blessed Virgin May is… truly the Mother of God and did… retain her virginity before the birth, in the birth and perpetually after the birth.” Further on, Pope St. Leo I said,” He (Jesus) was conceived by the Holy Spirit in the womb of the Virgin Mother, who gave Him birth losing her virginity just as she conceived Him without losing her virginity.” These popes are only two of many who state that Mary was a virgin before the birth of Christ. What the popes say are to be held definitely and infallible; therefore, they cannot be wrong when saying Mary was a through out her whole life. She was able to conceived Jesus with the help of the Holy Spirit, which it is inevitably divine as it is related to…

Mary the mother of Jesus is an important figure to the Catholic Churches teachings. Towards the end of Problema I, Kierkegaard discusses the Virgin Mary to compare the greatness of Abraham to that of Mary, and to further emphasize the distinction between tragic hero and knight of faith. He writes, “for she was no heroine and he no hero, but both of them became greater than that, not by any means by being relieved of the distress, the agony, and the paradox, but because of these (Kierkegaard 94).” Mary, like Abraham, is tested by God through her virgin birth. The indignity put upon Mary resembles Abraham’s ethical dilemma, and yet through the paradox of faith and infinite resignation, she becomes the mother of God, as Isaac is returned to Abraham. The same “strength of the absurd,” a virgin birth in Mary’s case, grants Abraham the strength…
