Let's Move Case Study
Childhood obesity has become a large problem in the United States. “Let’s Move” is an organization that is all about raising a healthier generation of kids; it was launched by the first lady, Michelle Obama, in February 2010. She initiated a Task Force which required a review of any program in the United States related to child nutrition and physical activity (letsmove.gov). The goal of Let’s Move is to change the fact that obesity has taken over the lives of children and put them on a healthier path by changing the food kids eat and how active they are on a daily basis. This organization not only wants to reach out to kids, but also to parents, caregivers, and schools. Let’s Move is strongly passionate about the fact that everyone has a role to play in reducing childhood obesity. The images are directed to a wide range of …show more content…
Let’s Move wants to grasp the attention of their audience by showing images with real children, facts, and examples that make them understand the importance of their role in taking action to reduce childhood obesity.
The first image shows a child that wants to remove hot dogs from school lunches The credibility of this image is clearly displayed by the photo of the child and the child’s basic information; name, age, and where he lives. The boy, Benjamin, is at the age where he is in school and has experienced eating hot dogs for lunch. Below the description of the boy is a fact about processed foods and how they increase the risk of colorectal cancer. By including this fact, the credibility of how unhealthy hot dogs are increases. Therefore, the audience gains knowledge about how hot dogs are a dangerous processed food and agree that they shouldn't be served as a school lunch. The logo and website of Let’s Move are also shown in this picture to add credibility. Image 1 also wants to bring attention to this issue using emotional appeal. By

    Factors such as unhealthy food choices on school campuses, lack of physical activities in schools, and inadequate health education for America’s youth are the main causes of childhood obesity in America. Although public schools could have a large impact on creating a healthier generation of children, many more accomplishments would have to occur in order to see a complete reformation.
