In gymnosperms, pollination is the transfer of pollen (Fig. 2) from male cones (where pollen is produced) to female cones, which house eggs. In these plants, pollen is carried from male cones to female cones by wind - gymnosperms were the first plants to evolve that did not need free water to transfer sperm to egg, and were therefore able to thrive in terrestrial habitats. Pollen grains are also protected by tough coats. After fertilization, seeds are produced with developing embryos…

Specific heat and climate were the primary focus of this lab. Specific heat is defined as “the measure of the ability of a substance to change temperature”. The purpose for carrying out this lab was to determine the specific heat/rates of both soil and water, and then comparing them. Students also were to relate specific heat to climate. Students were to determine which substance expressed a higher specific heat by using the formula, (q=m*Δt*c). Then they were to explain how specific heat and climate are in relation to one another.…

    function of steam boiler

    • 427 Words
    • 2 Pages

A steam boiler is a vessel that contains water and a heat source powered by oil, coal or gas. The boiler transfers heat from the heat source to the water vessel, thereby turning the water into steam. This steam exits the vessel through a pipe and is transported to another location where it can be used for cleaning, to power equipment, to provide heat or for a number of other functions. A closed boiler system is one in which 100 percent of the steam is returned to the vessel in the form of water and reused. Closed boiler systems are very efficient and less costly to operate. However, some industrial processes contaminate the steam and prevent it from being reused. A boiler that does not return the used steam to the water vessel is called an open system.…
