How Pornography Affects Society
PORNOGRAPHY

The word pornography comes from the Greek meaning, whore, harlot, prostitute, and to buy or sell a woman”. The word alone is degrading to women, how bad could the actual acts be? There are so many forms pornography comes in: magazines, posters, music, videos, and the most popular, the internet. This all makes it way too easy to access. Some of the serious effects include violent and degrading acts towards women, the difference between a real sex life and the ones on the internet, and the sexual problems that pornography contributes to for many, many couples. Pornography is a way for people to release sexual tension. Even in a good relationship, no two people share the same sex drive and want sex at the same time. Sometimes it's far easier and more enjoyable to "get off" by using porn than going to the trouble of finding a sex partner.
Porn is also a way to enjoy fantasies (group sex, bdsm and others) while not indulging in it in real life. Couples can become more stimulated by watching pornographic scenarios together. Depending on the type of porn (visual, literary) it might better suit a person's needs than mere fantasy. Some people are more easily aroused by visual stimulation, such as movies or pictures; others are more aroused by the erotic stories or books. For*some* people it might become addictive (the way drugs or food are addictive to other people). The addiction is the problem here, not the addictive substance, but it may mean less social interaction with potential real life sexual partners. An addicted person may feel more sexually inadequate and frustrated and let their addiction interfere with real life--work, school or social life.
The viewing of pornographic videos should be an activity based on mutual consent. The videos should never be the sole source of pleasure. Pornography may or may not help; it depends on the personalities of the partners. Sometimes it may

I can see how this could lead to unsafe practices or putting people in situations outside of their comfort level. As our text explains the behavioral account of the development of paraphilias, after a person pairs masturbation with inappropriate sexual fantasies repeatedly, they then extend the frequency and intensity. Naturally, if the person is feeling good about what they are doing they will repeat it. The intensity increase can account for the need to add to what they are doing. What may have been exciting and shocking before, is dull and boring at the present so they need to come up with something new. I was astounded by the statistics in our lecture notes regarding people who using the internet for sexual entertainment and was surprised to see that there was no percentage for those who were just curious or began with curiosity. I was also surprised that over 50% of the men were in committed relationships. I wonder if the relationship was lacking something for them or if they would…

Pornography paints a picture of a relationship that is not realistic for the overwhelming majority of the population. In most cases of pornographic media, there is one partner in the scene that holds control or dominance, and there seems to be no emotional connection between the two or more actors. In short, pornography only presents one side of a normal relationship: the sexual side. In reality, this side of a relationship should be less important or symbolic than the emotional connection between two or more people for a healthful relation.…

When talking about social stigmas and social problems dealing with pornography most people tend to talk about those who purchase or watch pornography. It is not possible to provide a workable definition of "degrading pornography" because it is demeaning to our whole society. With such sexual explicit content that's out there, it sends the message out to young children and adults that it is okay to encounter sexual intercourse in a way that isn't appreciative. Sexual intercourse should be treated as a gift for people who love each other. Do the characters on the degrading pornography have a relationship or just relations? In fact, in my opinion I think any pornography is immoral. Men or women shouldn't watch or look at pornography as a hobby or at all. I know that the characters of pornography agree to what they do in the pornography, which they degrade themselves. But if our society weren't so apt to have pornography around and use it, then there wouldn't be a reason for anyone to degrade themselves. So in my opinion, pornography, degrading or not, should…

Pornography is the graphic depiction of sexuality that aims to stimulate sexual desire. It appears in several mediums, but pornographic images have inspired the bulk of discussion and research. The questions of how pornography should be defined and whether pornography should be censored, regulated, or protected as a form of free speech have historically been the biggest sources of controversy surrounding the regulation of pornography. In the United States, laws that have attempted to answer these questions as well as regulate access to pornography have changed as societal mores have evolved and the means of pornography distribution have become more pervasive. The motives behind the regulation of pornography are diverse. The most prevalent contemporary…

There are several different viewpoints on the subject of masturbation it is even mentioned in the bible as, early as the Book of Genesis. This religion viewed masturbation a sin and deemed it to be something that you would be punished for. At one point it was only acceptable if it was performed by a doctor or a midwife as part of a medical treatment for “hysteria” but was still condemned as a form of sexual pleasure. Another point of view is that any expression of sexuality is wrong before an individual is married. A final point of view is that it is psychologically and physically dangerous that it creates an unrealistic view of sex and may make it harder for an individual to perform and in some cases render a person infertile.…

"The literal definition of pornography is taken from the ancient Greek porne, meaning female sexual slaves, and graphos, meaning writings or graphic depictions thereof" (Stock). As time has went by there have been many depictions of pornography, but the real quarrel started in the 1600's. "Danish criminologist Berl Kutchinsky traces the beginnings of of modern pornography to the 1650s, when three pornographic classics appeared." (Anonymous). Pornography is found to be not only destructive to people in general, but degrading to women as well. Pornography is degrading to women because it serves as an instruction manual for violent sexual acts, it portrays violence against women as an acceptable thing, and it portrays women as useless sex toys. Therefore, the explicit content of pornography is degrading in many ways to the women of our country.…

Pornography … a term that has been heavily contested in many courts across America. But what exactly is pornography? Is a nude painting of Adam and Eve pornography? If Anna Nicole Smith appears in Penthouse magazine in an erotic position, is that art? Most people can't see the art in nude sculpture, painting, or photography. Pornography is all in the presentation. Pornography is the use of any artistic media to simply evoke only sexual stimulation.…
