Driving is a privilege that many have looked forward to for a long time. Teenagers have always looked forward to their 16th birthday because it signified the day that they could finally get a license and hit the road. Since driving is a privilege many parents engrave that in their children’s minds that it can be revoked at any time. These steps allow young drivers to start off slowly and get comfortable in the vehicle. For example, Florida’s D.M.V.(Department of Motor Vehicles) makes driving a step by step process. The first step is to pass the drug and alcohol class and to pass the written exam. After you pass these two prerequisites you are allowed to make an appointment and get your Learner’s Permit. With this permit, teenagers are allowed to drive with a licensed driver that is 21 years old or older. This allows the driver to gain practice in a semi-controlled environment. The passenger in the front passenger seat is capable of pulling the E-brake at any time that he/she sees necessary. This passenger also acts like an active driving mentor they are capable of giving the driver some advice on situations that might happen, have happened, or occurred to them personally. This is practiced for a year and after this; the teenager who is now 16 can drive on his or her own. It is done this way because now the young driver has had a year of experience with driving and can react and know what to do better than someone who has just taken the test picture and gotten his or her permit. They state that the many laws that they have instituted to protect the safety of drivers on the road are not enough to stop the recklessness of teenagers, however, the cohort with the highest amount of fatal crashes are ages 25-34(Table 2). This shows that due to the large amount of driving laws that are instituted annually many drivers have more to focus on then their speed and the cars around them. A portion of the population also states that the teenage drivers do not have enough experience to be driving out on the road but in order to gain experience driving you must drive out on the road in traffic, of course this puts more than a several people at risk but in order to gain experience you need practice and in this case to practice you need to put yourself in as minimal risk to harm but still be able to learn how to control the accelerator and the brake. This is why many states use the step driving method as mentioned earlier, where young drivers can gain experience in a semi safe environment. Also most people that are in the cohort of ages 25-34 have very little self control because they have just been legally allowed to drink; when drinking the first thing to be affected is judgment which means a group of young adults that have been at a party need to go home even though under the influence will
