Cynthia is the mother of Maria, Rosa, and Isabella, the ex-wife of Jose and ex-daughter-in-law of Wanda. Cynthia was born and raised in the United States of America. She identifies as a single, head of the household, female. Her race is White, ethnicity is Italian and religion is Catholic. Cynthia and her daughters live in a predominantly White neighborhood, and because she identifies as White and was raised in the United States, she does not feel as though she ever needed to acculturate. Cynthia’s great-grandparents were from Italy, which has influenced her values and somewhat strong ties with her Italian ethnicity . Family is very important to her, she believes in supporting, loving, and being close with family. Cynthia is very dedicated to her children and wants to see them succeed in life. She makes sure to attend all of her daughter’s meetings when it involves school and attends their extracurricular activities. She is the former mother-in-law of Cynthia. Wanda is a first generation immigrant from Puerto Rico. She and her late husband moved to the United States twenty-one years ago and settled in New York City. Wanda’s first language is Spanish but she speaks English fluently. Family is very important to Wanda and in her Puerto Rican culture. Other values related to her Puerto Rican heritage include an emphasis on education and marriage. She identifies as Catholic. Wanda has acculturated in that she identifies as an American, and values the US government, democracy, and capitalism.
