When I first signed up for guard, I had no idea what I was getting into. But when I got into it and performed, it became a PASSION. Guard has made me more mature and responsible. There are a lot of characteristics and qualities that come to my mind when I consider the leaders in my life and the influence that they have had on my values, skills, and knowledge of what makes an effective leader. In bringing together the various characteristics and qualities, I have a portrait of what an ideal leader can and should be. A good leader has great vision. He knows where he wants to go and he knows how to motivate people to believe in the same vision he has for his group and life. He views things as what they could be and not what they are. A good leader is a very passionate person. He is intensely obsessed in whatever he is focused on. He also has compassion for his fellows. While he has goals to accomplish, he consistently cares for the individuals that support him. A good leader is not a selfish individual only thinking about his wants and needs. Also, a good leader is determined in attaining his goals. It is undeniably true that the key to leadership is accomplishing the tasks at hand while building relationships. I want to be in a leadership position because I have a real passion for guard and I want to help my fellow guardies and be a positive role model to them and inspire them. I want to contribute everything I have to offer to this program. To me, extra practices, time spent to help others learn the choreography, helping with equipment, and many other things a leader is chosen to do, is not a work, but a privilege. These tasks would not bother or frustrate me, because as long as it’d help my peers, I’d be happy to do anything to help. I’d handle all obstacles, whether they concern individuals, the team, a routine, or equipment, in an effective way that would help the team grow. Even though I’m fairly new at color guard, my enthusiasm and

A good leader has a great vision. They must have confidence in their leadership and must be able to use the authority they have. If the leader can’t handle his/her power, they shouldn’t be in charge. The leader shouldn’t….
A popular quote used by many guard members is that “Color Guard is god's gift to the marching band”. No matter your religion, the message of the quote is clear. Many guard members feel that the marching band needs them. Most band members would disagree with this, however, the color guard is superior to the band because the guard has to work harder, has more interesting equipment, and a better offseason activity than the marching band.
Wind and rain are environmental factor that mother nature never….
The traditional color guard held the national flag and marched into battle with soldiers, along with a drummer or a few drummers to keep all the soldiers in step as they marched. As marching bands became more known, the color guard added the "dance" to the music that the band was playing. Now, it has turned into a known sport called "The Sport of Arts".

everyone on those friday nights were going to get their popcorn and hot dogs, we were just practicing for the next day, where no one would dare move from their seats, because, no one wanted to miss a second of the performance. This is color guard. This is me.
Color guard has transformed me, and pushed me closer to the woman I want to become. I’ve learned to have a voice for myself, because we shout our counts as loud as we can in the hopes that, if we shout loud enough, maybe our toss will land perfectly….
do. However, my color guard is beginning to get the hang of it. We are coming up with a class piece to perform in our showcase at the end of the year. The song we have chosen to this piece is Midnight City. The concept behind this piece is the remarkable growth of the Poinciana High School color guard.
It starts with Natalie, our captain and the only senior on color guard alone on stage performing some work. She represents when she joined four years ago, and how small the guard was. Then two of….
I am extremely sad that color guard season is over. Even though there is a winter guard, I’m not doing it this year. On Tuesday, the entire band went to all the elementary schools and also the middle school to end the season. I have never been to Forest Hunt, and I was surprised how small the gym was. I really enjoyed going back to Harris and seeing my favorite teacher, Mr. Wallace. I’m going to miss all the seniors who graduate this year. Next year will not be the….
In my junior year of high school, the band directors hired a new coach for the color guard. At first all seemed well and the season had a great start but soon the other leaders and I began to notice problems. Our coach became more and more of a bully with verbal and emotional abuse directed at specific members. At first we all just worked together to build positivity and move past the comments. Eventually, the leaders collectively decided to approach the band directors with the situation and ask….
