Civil War was between the Union and the Confederates. The Civil War was fought to preserve the Union. Eventually it turned the focus of the war to slavery. As a result, Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation of Proclamation which led to the freedom of slaves and allowed blacks to join the army.
