Good evening everyone, I hope everyone is enjoying their night. My name is Keyona and I was the one of the 4 captains chosen for the 2011 Montclair High School Cheerleading Squad. During my 3 years on the squad, I’ve had so many memories, good and bad, that helped me grow as a person. Cheerleading throughout my high school career took part in shaping me as the person I am today. I’d like to congratulate this year’s squad for making it through the season successfully as a new team. There were a lot of ups and downs, but I think we handled each situation well. As the season progressed, I’ve formed bonds with many of the girls on the team that will last me way beyond my high school experience. Some of the girls I think more of sisters than team mates. You guys made my experience more than enjoyable by joking, laughing, and having fun every time I stepped through gym doors. Even if my day was horrible, SOMEONE made me laugh or smile and my frown was quickly turned upside down. I’d like to thank Ms. Rob and Ms. HB for giving me the opportunity to be captain this year. They taught me to have a tough skin and to keep my head up in any situation I face in life. If I had the choice to pick different coaches for the squad, I wouldn’t because nobody could take their place in my eyes. Most importantly, I’d like to thank my mother Lisa White for motivating me and being there whenever I needed her. Even though she punished me every Saturday after each home game with washing loads of dishes from when she made cookies the night before, it was worth it. Overall, the season was unforgettable and I wouldn’t give my spot up as captain for the world. Thank you guys and enjoy the rest of your time here at the
I beg to differ. I, as a 3 year returner of the Huntington Park High Cheerleading squad, know how difficult, intense, and extreme the job is. Being in cheer does not only mean throwing on a beautiful sparkly, glittery, and glamorous uniform; it means dedicating time, strength, and putting physical health at risk. The chances of getting hurt in cheer are just or if not higher than getting hurt in football, basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, tennis, etc. People don’t acknowledge what cheerleaders do….
I can remember. Although I took part in other sports, clubs, activities, I have always returned to cheer. It was and has always been more than just a sport to me, it is a way of life.
When I think of all the characteristics one must have to be true to this sport, many come to mind. Every member of a squad strives to posses as many as possible, if not all. As we grow from the child teaching cheers and stunts on the play ground, to attending many weekend cheerleading kids camps, to being part of….
tough (or tougher than) any other sport.
First off people tend to get confused between competitive cheerleading and sideline cheerleading. Well there is a huge difference. Sideline cheerleaders main goal is to entertain the crowd and lead them with cheers, which I believe, should not in any way be considered a sport. We are talking about competitive cheerleading here!
What is a sport? The definition of a sport is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes….
years have been cheerleading injures (Renee).
People who think that cheerleading is not a sport often give reasons such as, “If a girl is going to risk injury, why not engage in a real sport that has an authentic competitive component, unlike a “cheer-off”, which is absolutely pointless? Yes, pointless – cheerleading is just that. If cheerleading is a sport, then Carmelo Anthony is a ballerina” (Downey).
The Women’s Sports Foundation recently agreed upon four elements that define a sport. The….

Good evening Shari,
I am contacting you to inform you of some issues that have I have been concerned with when it comes to Kami and her performance on the JV cheer team. First and foremost, I just want to let you know that it has been a pleasure working with Kami on our team. Kami brings a very energetic and infectious vibe to our team. She has grown tremendously as an individual and as an athlete. However, lately, it is that same energetic and infectious behavior that has become a distraction….

Dear Mr. ____ ,
As a cheerleader and student at Campo Verde, I purpose we add a cheer gym to our growing school. I believe that adding a cheer gym will benefit not only the cheerleaders but also other athletes. Adding a cheer gym to Campo Verde High would create a separate practice space, keep mats in one place, and allow for more practice time.
A cheer gym will create a separate practice space away from everyone else. Currently, the cheerleaders and I practice in the cafeteria. It is unsanitary….
There are many different opinions out there about cheerleaders, many good, and some bad. Some think of them as the girls standing by the football field, but I think of cheerleading as a symbol of all the spirit that we can share, and a token of appreciation toward the team that’s being cheered on. Cheerleading is such a vital part to many sections of the school. If I was chosen to be a captain for the 2013-2014 year, not only would I make sure that any negative….
