In today’s society, we all have suffered from altered or oversimplified images or ideas. Whenever we are in a grocery store or a classroom, we cannot help but judge someone without knowing them. There are many elements that influence stereotype like in social media or experiences. Furthermore, we give off a judgment based on what we see and know; that is what stereotyping is. Stereotype is characterized like as an opinion or idea about a certain group or type of individual. The cause of stereotyping is judgement/labeling and the negative effect is emotionally/mentally damage on the individual and discrimination on groups of people. Judgement is a huge factor that causes stereotyping. Judgement is based off of someone giving an opinion or statement about someone that does not have any information about the individual and only going by their experiences. Usually, they are effected by discrimination which leads to other factors. Such like, racial tension; which can result in damaging groups between groups. Discrimination, disrespectfully judges another group of people based on race, age, or sex. For example, a group of women in a workplace are getting paid less then a group of men because of their sex. This can lead to racial tension between each other. Another example can be, groups of people or more than one type of race who live around the same location facing serious conflicts between each other is described as racial tension. The result of this causes serious damage between groups because in American society many are a mix of multicultural. Many have different ethnicities in themselves. In addition, giving stereotypic thoughts about a certain race inflicts not only that group but can lead back to the group giving the judgment because in their heritage/ancestry, they might have that ethnicity in them without knowing
