There have been times in my life where I have been lucky and ashamed at then same time. I know many people such as friends, family etc who have been lucky & and ashamed but some at the same time and some at different times. For example my friend Natalia and her Parents have been lucky people within the last few years. It was 2010 when they won the LOTTERY!! Now that’s what you call being lucky. But being lucky isn’t always about winning the lottery or having things other people don’t have and you enjoy having it. Being lucky is basically waking up thanking god he blessed you with another day!
There has been a time in my life where I felt ashamed. One day I was going to the park with my friends and we see these two people who were alcoholics & homeless asking people for money and all these other things. It was sad because seeing someone like that makes me sad and grateful at the same time. I was sad seeing those people because seeing them begging for change made me want to dig in my pocket and give them some change or money that I have so I can help them out. And it made me grateful because if that was someone that I knew then I would be completely shocked of how they decided to live there life. This is why I never taking anything for granted for life because I know that some people in the world would not be able to afford some of the stuff that I have.
I believe that in the story “Before we were free “By Julia Alvarez, Anita has the right to be lucky and ashamed. She should feel lucky because she has a wonderful family, a house, a bed, toys and all the luxury things in life. But then she should feel ashamed as well because when she goes into the market she sees all of these poor kids , she has no right but to feel ashamed because while there homeless or poor in the market at the end of the day she has a house to come back too. They probably don’t.
