Accident/Incident Policy
My main concern is the safety of your children, you have entrusted me with the care of your children and I will do everything within my power to ensure their safety. Unfortunately sometimes unfortunate events do happen and I have written this policy to show how I would deal with the situation.
I will do my very best to calm and comfort the child.
I will assess the situation and the extent of the injuries, if necessary I will contact medical support or ambulance.
If needed I will carry out first aid which I am qualified to do.
Once the situation is under control I will contact parents/careers to inform them of what has happened and depending on the severity of the accident/incident collect the child from my care or meet me at the hospital where the child is receiving care.
If I have other children within my care and I need to accompany a child to hospital they would have to come with me and I would contact their parents to meet me there/on route to collect them. This would only happen in absolute emergency and I would try my very best to keep the child calm and distract them from seeing anything that they shouldn’t to the best of my ability.
I have an accident book which I will fill out every time there is an accident/incident and parents/careers will be asked to read through what has happened and sign and date the book to prove that they have been given knowledge of this.
If the accident/incident requires any type of medical treatment then I will:
Inform Ofsted (Ofsted must be notified of any serious accident or injury)
Inform my insurance company
Contact the early years for additional advice/support
If you seek medical attention for your child after an accident that happened in my care or your care, please keep me informed of any developments.
