After the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service failed to list the Northern Spotted Owl as an endangered species, several environmental groups petitioned for the Department of the Interior to reconsider this decision. The reasoning behind the Department of the Interior’s failure to list the NSO was that it’s listing would interfere with a lucrative logging industry that already had several future projects approved by the DOI. Environmental groups felt that he logging projects in Washington State were being prioritized over the responsibility that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has to protect endangered species under the provisions of the Endangered Species Act. After a delay to respond to this matter, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service…

    Evidence Of Abuse

Evidence of abuse is important so it needs to be preserved, this can be done in a variety of different ways. You can preserve evidence by only touching things you need to, securing all evidence somewhere it can not be tampered with by anyone, keeping logs of all conversations involving the abuse and keeping all relevant people up to date with details as often as possible, also taking photographs is a good way of preserving evidence. However the best way to preserve evidence is to inform the relevant bodies as soon as possible so that there is less time for anything to happen to any evidence that may be present. Physical or sexual abuse may leave forensic evidence and therefore in this situation you would keep people out of the area which the…

    Endangered Species Act

The Endangered Species Act (ESA) was passed into law on the 28th December 1973. It was enforced by the United States of America to protect critically jeopardized species from extinction, from a consequence of development and economic growth and the conservation of the environment they depend on. There are two main federal agencies that are administered to the act: the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). A species is considered endangered when it faces the danger of extinction of its range or a high portion and if a species is likely to become an endangered in a foreseeable time. Overall there are about 2,100 species that are listed as endangered and of these about 1,500 found in the United States.…

    Prolonged Abuse

Dianne Feinstein, a senior United States senator once said “Domestic violence causes far more pain than the visible marks of bruises and scars. It is devastating to be abused by someone you love and thinks loves you in return.” Although societal awareness and criticism of this issue has been increased in recent years, spousal abuse still remains a persistent issue because of the power and control held by the abuser and also, the fear that the victim suffer from these situations. Historically, women were seen as properties and it was not too long ago that the husband was legally allowed to beat his wife as long as the stick was not thicker than his thumb. People argue that the blame should still be on the woman because she should have seeked help or eloped. However, these people do not understand that mental disorder is also an element of this topic and sometimes, there’s really no possible way for the woman to escape. From these facts, I believe that prolonged abuse should be a defence for killing.…

The Endangered Species Act was written to protect and recover the at risk species and the ecosystems that those animals depend on. It was passed in 1973 in hopes of recognizing the natural resources are very important to our nation and people. The U.S Fish and wildlife Service and the Commerce Department’s National Marine Fisheries Service are administrators of the act, and they both have their own responsibilities when it comes to implementing the ESA and the animals it protects. “The FWS has primary responsibility for terrestrial and freshwater organisms, while the responsibilities of NMFS are mainly marine wildlife such as whales and anadromous fish such as salmon” (“US Fish and Wildlife”, 2015). There are many different sections throughout…

    Mental Abuse

Workers in mental institutes tended to be abusive to patients. This has a lot to do with the fact that they weren’t properly trained to be with people with mental disabilities that could get violent because they have no control. In the worker’s defense, to them, the best idea to hold back the patient’s violent bouts was with restraints and physical abuse. This has not changed from the past due to the use of straitjackets and drugs to subdue patients, although, that does not excuse these workers for their crimes. In fact, it makes it worse because they know that the people admitted are vulnerable and they are using that to their advantage. Often when women are admitted and then get out they reveal that they were raped by a worker during their…

    General Anti Abuse

Whether we like it or not, the General Anti-Abuse Rule (GAAR) is to be embraced by all of us by next year as per announced in Budget 2012 - a decision made by the Her Majesty Revenue and Customs (HRMC) to abolish the tax avoidance schemes that is seen as totally abusive and unacceptable for the importance of the United Kingdom herself. The HRMC feels the need to curb the problems of companies investing offshores, people not using banks for their businesses and daily transactions and the list go on just to avoid paying the high rate of taxes that they are obliged to. The government claims that GAAR is the ultimate solution to approach the United Kingdom tax system. The question is, how much do we really need GAAR to be imposed on our law systems? Some would say that GAAR is needed to stop the exploitations made by businesses and non-business taxpayers, while some would say that it is not as necessary when the rule is going to hurt many of those involved. Of course, there are pros and cons in every decision made, especially one like the GAAR that is going to affect the entire nation’s well being and they can be seen from the views of lawyers, accountants, and the public.…
