StudyMode provides a network of educational sites and practical online learning tools that allow students to share and review study materials such as: flashcards, research papers, and book notes, as well as access to an easy citation generator. At StudyMode, we recognize that technology has greatly impacted education, and students now have the ability to customize the way they learn.
Founded by Blaine Vess and Chris Nelson in 1999, the site originally provided a search engine to help students prepare for their research papers. It's since shifted toward a content-sharing model and has grown into an established destination for students looking to learn and increase their knowledge on nearly any topic. StudyMode is self-funded and its network serves more than 2 billion pages per year to students all over the world.
Blaine Vess, Co-Founder and CEO
Blaine Vess is the co-founder and CEO of StudyMode, a world traveler, and a consummate risk taker. Blaine originally created StudyMode as a resource for his friends and classmates to share content during his freshman year of college. Two days in and fifteen uploaded essays later, Blaine realized he was on to something. Recognizing the value of this untapped resource, he honed his programming skills and guided StudyMode from a dorm room project to a network of sites that now reach millions of students across the globe. Blaine’s goal is for students and teachers to understand and embrace the changing role of technology in education. His day-to-day focus is to expand StudyMode into new services and markets.
Todd Clemens, Co-Founder and COO
Todd Clemens is the co-founder and COO of StudyMode. He joined the company in March of 2008 after working intermittently with the team for over eight years. Day-to-day, he works with various teams at StudyMode to make sure the student-focused vision is consistent across all offerings. His goal is to have fun building tools that students love and will help them achieve academic success, however they define it. Todd believes that the integration of technology in education will lead to greater collaboration and success in and out of the classroom. Prior to StudyMode, he founded two other web-based companies, including one that was founded in his college dorm room. When not working, Todd enjoys venturing to far away destinations and neighborhood haunts alike.
