Death of the Moth.
Woolf incorporates symbolism in her essay by describing the moth as life and energy. "So simple a form of the energy" and "taken a tiny bead of pure life and decking it as lightly as possible with down and feathers, had set it dancing and zig-zagging to show us the true nature of life" quoted from the essay. Another way she incorporates symbolism is by describing the months journey to death. Woolf also describes the scenery, the horses, and the farm itself. The month had traveled from one windowsill to the other.Flying from one end to the next. Eventually it's movements become awkward. The month wasn't filled with much "life or energy". It stops flying until it can't anymore. Slowly excepting it's death after fighting it back for as long as it could.
The message in this essay is death. It eventually comes to everyone and everything. For it's stronger than the moth, stronger than life it's self. Woolf has sympathy for the moth and realizes that life is truly life precious. The month is so determined to continue living. She had tried to assist the moth by using her pencil to bring him back up but laid it down shortly afterwords. It danced around the window and continued to fight even though it had fallen down several times; it brought itself back up.

    Edgar Allan Poe uses death to convey his ideals. By looking at his language, one can tell his abilities to strike terror into the hearts of the readers.     In the poem “The Lesson of the Moth” writer Don Marquis compares two different lifestyles through a free spirited moth and a logical thinking human. The moth states that it is better to be a part of beauty and excitement for one instant and then cease to exist forever and never be a part of beauty. The narrator of the poem seems really depressed because of the way she expresses her attitude towards life. In the very beginning of this poem the narrator is asking what the purpose of life is. In my opinion the narrator is saying that life isn't worth living and we are all like worms in a storm. Basically he/she is saying that life is a very confusing and frustrating place sometimes. In my opinion the deeper meaning is that in reality a worm is so tiny compared to the rest of the world. When the narrator says, "That flies at night," this just emphasizes even more about how small and invisible this worm is. When it is dark outside you can hardly see anything, so it would clearly be impossible to see something invisible. I think that what this poem is trying to portray is, that we as human beings are very tiny compared to the whole world and that we as individuals are invisible. So in theory, I think that this poem is about how the narrator thinks that one person can't make a difference in life. In a way this is similar to the first poem because the author has a negative attitude towards life and does not think highly of it, "Life in itself Is nothing..."
