3.03 Manage Your Stress

Stress is a common element found in everyone’s life (adults, teens, etc.). Everyone gets so overwhelmed while under stress, that they forget how to handle it. When I’m under stress I decide to do breathing exercises, play so basketball, or listen to music. These stress relievers can all help you get your mind off of your problems and get you focused on what you’re doing. When I was under stress, for my Relaxation Technique, I chose to do different breathing exercises. Breathing can help you maintain a good physical and mental state of mind. Recently, I was assigned about one to two projects in each of my six classes, all within one week and they were all due on the same day. I thought I would be able to do it by doing a little bit each day. It turned out that I had done too little and about two days before they were due, I was so stressed out that I cried and didn’t know how to handle this situation. I put everything that needed to be done out in front of me and just stopped. I closed my eyes and did breathing exercises. I took several deep breaths and came back to my senses. I finished about three of the projects late that night and talked to my teachers about extending the due dates for the other projects. Thanks to breathing, it brought me back into a peaceful state of mind when I was able to solve my problems with logic and reasoning. Sometimes you just need to clear your mind. Stress just takes over your body and it overpowers you. You need to know how to control it by doing something physical. Physical activities take your mind off of things and they get you focused on what you’re doing, so for the time being you don’t remember that you were under stress, and once you’re done with your activity, you feel more relaxed and ready to handle it. I like to take a walk and think about my problems (peacefully) and how to solve them. When taking a walk, I never really know where I’m going to end up. I just walk around

Stress has helped me before, especially with meeting my deadlines by improving my time management skills. As well, stress has aided me in working towards effective conflict resolution skills, if the root of my stress revolves around people. Also, the feeling of conquering my tasks makes me feel good, so there’s also that pleasure factor to take into account. Stress motivates me to do better, but in moderation. The only way stress is helpful is if it’s taken in dosages, and if it becomes too overwhelming I need to take a break. I know when that time comes intuitively, and if I don’t I can take a look at my body’s response. I’m prone to breaking out when I’m under a lot of stress, as well as experiencing fatigue all the time. Once it reaches a certain point, I take a day off of school, or do something fun with my friends. Taking care of my mental wellness is as important to me, if not more so, as my physical well…

I spoke to a variety of students to see what they did to cope with stress. Some students explained that they use their planner so they can figure out how to manage their time, working out, taking a nap, and watching Netflix. Everyone copes with stress differently. Hannah Gray, a sophomore at UT, spoke about how it is important for her to work out when she experiences high levels of stress. “It can release some of the anger and frustration that I am starting to experience. It helps me burn off the energy that has been created by my levels of stress,” Hannah said.…

The first technique I used was imagery. After researching, I learned that in many studies imagery is used to reduce patient’s blood pressures. Basically its when you visualize in your head something that relaxes you or makes you happy. It could be you accomplishing a goal, doing an activity, or even a place. During the school week I often get overloaded with homework for hours. I sometimes stress on not being able to make a due date or not being able to finish on time and it leads to me giving up. This week in particular I felt like this. I took a five-minute break, lied down and imagined the last vacation I took. Imagining sounds such as the ocean hitting the rocks, smells such as the ocean water, touch such as the breeze against my hair and skin flowed the stress out of my body. I could feel my body heat decreasing, and my eyebrows unfurrowing. This is a great way to deal with…

Instead of constantly going over thoughts in again and again in one’s head and building up pressure in the brain cells, one should take some time out in a relaxing environment with preferably no alcohol or cigarettes and drugs present. During that time in a very cool and calm manner take notes as to how the problem arose, why was it allowed to affect the person under stress so badly, when did it all begin etc. This is the initial brain storming or rather problem searching time that a person tries to discover as to why he is in…

For the most part, I was able to calm myself down through my own thoughts. Whenever I become really stressed out, I would let myself know that everything was going to be alright, and that things happen that are out of our control. However, sometimes I found myself making it worse, by beating myself up over something that was so insignificant. I find it that it is much easier to just move on sometimes than it is to think about a stressful situation.…

Other things I would do this go to some place which helps me relieve stress. However overall, I don't think there is anything else I would do besides the things that I stated in the answers above. The main point is that you have to let go of it. Doesn't matter how, but you really should. It will benefit you in many ways. That's because you will face a lot of problems in life greater than these and you have to overcome them. I think letting go of stress should be a habit which will help you in life.…
