‘A house is not a home unless it contains food and fire for the mind as well as the body.’ Benjamin Franklin
A house is a structure built to provide shelter. It is a place built to utilize and a place you may not feel any connection to. A house can be any sort of building where one might live or stay. You can live in a house and it is not really a home, and you can live in a home without it really being a house. In order for a house to become a home, it needs to be made of love. A home is a place where you and your family feel welcome and at ease, a place where there is happiness, warmth, melodrama, commotion, laughter, excitement, sorrow, blues, hope, and care. A home is a place where there is achievements, goals, faith, belief, enthusiasm, and optimism. A home is a place where one feels in their own element. A home is where you are most comfortable and cozy. It is where you can relax, cook and eat your favorite meals with the ones you love.
I agree and believe with all my heart and soul in this quote by Benjamin Franklin. A house becomes a home as you live in it and begin to add your own personal touch. It becomes a home when you begin making memories and add life to it. Although a home is not always a safe haven for people, this reminds us that life without a safe and nurturing home can have crucial ramifications for health and well-being. A home should be a place where your family and loved ones can help you make sense of life when life becomes chaotic and complicated. A place where you know your troubles are swept away. “A home is where the heart is!”

“Home is where the heart is,” Anne uses this quote to emphasize the importance of having a home and what having a home truly means. This quote speaks to me because my home is very important to me. It is the single place that I know I can always go back to, the place that is my definition of consistency. Unfortunately, not everyone gets to experience that feeling of having a singular point of consistency in their lives. These people are people, not the epidemic that we call the “homeless.”…

The overall message in this essay is that people make what they have home. If it’s living in a box or on the street they will always call that place home. It doesn’t matter what you have but how you feel about what you have. If you’re ok with where you call home then that fine. The real message in this essay is that not all people depend on items or things they have to make them happy.…

The memories of playing under the old hollow Oak Tree, swimming in the creek, working in the fields, feeding the cows, riding horses, hunting in the woods by day and night, playing our favorite indoor games or reading from the Bible as we sat near the fire place and sitting around the supper table will always be a part of us. After all, a house is not a home. A house is simply a place where a home may live, but when the people are no longer there, it is just a house.…

Home has many different meanings. Not every house is a home. When I was younger my dad built a tree house on a piece of land we own that is two lots away from our house. During the time he was building it I was reading “The Boxcar Children” by Gertrude Chandler and I loved the idea of living off of what a person could find. I got the idea from those books to try to stay at my tree house for an entire day without going home. I tried a few times but I always ended up back at my house because I became bored. I learned that to make a house, in this case a tree house, a home, my family has to be present. I no longer wanted to live by myself in my tree house. I did not learn the value of family at that age but I did know there was something special…

It is said that your home is a reflection of you. When you walk into someone’s home, you should get a sense of who they are as people. The décor, the smell, the cleanliness, down to the choice of linen fixtures, and appliances could give insight to a persons past and present. Meanwhile, how those things are used may give insight into their future. In the short stories “ A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner” and “ Everyday Use by Alice Walker,” this concept is displayed with its main characters respectfully. While, the homes give the main characters their identity, or lack their of, the sense of entitlement and privilege only deepens their connection to the their houses.…

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was revolutionary in his own right for statements like the one above. It was as if King Jr. was speaking directly to me in an existence that he had not been apart of. King Jr. was world renown and loved by many, but also hated by many and looked at as controversial for his public revolts against the American justice system. In spite of the known hatred that people had for him regarding his stances on social injustice, he preceded to carry out his purpose time and time again in the face of dangers unprecedented. On April 4, 1968 that danger would extend further than it had ever been. King Jr. was assassinated carrying out his purpose. King Jr. inspired me to be firm in the face of adversity no matter how grave the dangers. That is what it means to be thoroughly devoted to your purpose.…

The term “home” can literally represent anything. A place, a feeling, and even an idea each exist snugly beneath the umbrella society has come to know as “home.” Whatever people associate the word with, it holds some specific meaning to each member of the human race. Every individual is different, so there will be disagreements. However, there is some common ground amongst society for what it thinks of as “home.” This is also true in my particular group. There are variations, but there are similarities as well.…

The sacrifices, the beliefs, and the values parents implant in their children will help determine the person they grow up to be. A child is like a sponge that absorbs their parent’s thoughts and viewpoints that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. A bad event can scar them for life. For example, if a parent constantly yells at their child for no reasons and shows no signs of love, the little one’s childhood would consist of nothing but bad memories. This is exactly what happened to Shelly, the Indian girl from the “Homecoming”. The female protagonist definitely suffered immensely due to the lack of parental love and the constant battles in the house. Her careless parents would never stop blaming her for every little thing causing her to run away from home at a young age. Because of the bad childhood and painful memories, Shelly turned her back against the most important person in her life; her father. By the time she started to appreciate him, it was already too late, he was on the verge of death. In the short story of the “Homecoming”, through the strong use of metaphor, symbolism and irony, Sunera Thobani stresses how a sudden can drastically alter the way one sees parental love.…

What does home mean to me? It means safety, hope, love, and happiness. These four things make up my home. People say that home is where your heart is, that is true but there is more to it than that. Home is where I grew up, laughed, cried, and screamed. It’s where I became stronger, smarter, and wise. Home is what defines me; home is what makes me who I really am. Home is my future, my past, and my present.…
