A home away from home

A Home Away From Home What do you consider a home? Do you define your home as a private place; somewhere you sleep during the night or where you’ve been living you whole life? According to studies, “home is where you are most comfortable; it has effects on your education, emotions even physical health. Our homes are more than financial assets. They have deep emotional meaning (Ablow)”. But, if you ask me, a home is where you feel most comfortable, where you find yourself most peaceful, somewhere that relaxes you with just the thought of being there, it’s somewhere you feel safe, happy and open. Your home should feel calming and relaxing, as is mine. Even though I’ve lived in Illinois since birth, I’m proud to say that good ol' country Memphis is my home away from home, it has shaped me to be the person I am today.
Its 7 AM, Friday July 1st and I’ve been cooped up in that car for hours but it was worth the car ride. I’m finally here, I’m finally home. As I get out the car and stretched while taking it all in, the air is warm and the feeling of the warm concrete on my bare feet is so relaxing. It’s all so relaxing. No matter how many times we take our annual trips to Florida, Atlanta, and Memphis. I always get the feeling of excitement I did when I was seven years old. Memphis may be famous for many things: “barbeque, Elvis Presley, music, Martin Luther King Jr., and of course Beal Street (Sampson)”, but to me Memphis, being the biggest city in Tennessee, is just a little ol’ country town I call home. As we all unloaded out of the car, my great aunt, Madea, opened the front door and I was swept away by all the aromas, I could tell she had been up cooking us a good ol’ fashion country breakfast and I couldn’t wait to dig in! According to Ablow, “there are many things that can be remembered about one’s home, such as: scents, size, colors, language, etc. Fortunately for me I remember my home by the taste, yeah I’m a big girl, “hot butter milk pancakes, sausage,
