A Great Disappointment that turned out to be a Blessing
Shock. That was the first thing I felt when I saw the Principal coming towards us, her mouth pressed into an angry line. Comprehension came second; but it was too late. Before long, she had herded us out of the corridor, into the ground, ordering us to stand in a queue under the blazing sun and the watchful eyes of other students.
After she had left, I started to think. Why had I done it? Couldn't I have just followed my usual behavior and sit in class? Self-hatred hit me like a wrecking ball. I cursed the moment my friends and I had decided to follow the other students’ example and gotten out of class, thinking that if they never got punished, why would we? Of course, that was a horrible excuse and we knew it.
Standing there, with my equally grief-stricken friends, I felt a deep, piercing sadness. We didn't deserve this. We were the top-scorers, the good girls of the class. And we had been reduced to this, just because we were senseless enough to follow the example of others.
Then the pleading began. In a desperate attempt to get ourselves out of that humiliating situation, we tried to negotiate with the Principal and the Coordinators. But no one would listen. I felt betrayed. It was like they had forgotten our good grades, our previous commendable behavior. They shouted at us. They acted as if we had done this countless times before and they had only just caught us.
At last, I could not hold my tears back and they spilled form my eyes, making the situation even worse. My friends tried to calm me down but I couldn't hear them over the loud, desperate sobs wracking my body and the hollow ringing in my ears. All I could think was, “nothing will ever be the same again. My reputation is in shreds.” After some time, I calmed down and later, we were let inside our class. My elder sister found out about the whole situation and went to talk to the Principal, despite my protests. Soon, I was summoned by her and, taking deep breaths, I stepped into her office.
She asked me to explain the whole situation to her and after I did, she told me something that I will never forget. She said, “If someone steals, will you start stealing too?” This phrase has been latched to my mind since then. I came out of the office thinking that if I hadn't experienced this, however traumatizing it was, I might have done something like this later in life that would have had far worse consequences than being punished in front of the whole school. Wasn't this a blessing in disguise? That day, I found out that life has these little ways of making you learn things that help you a lot in the future and thought that maybe, life isn't so unfair after all.

It started out like any other day. I got out of bed and scrambled to get out the door after I took an extra hour in the shower. I hopped into a seat next to my best friend Erin. We talked for the ten minute ride before finally arriving at school. I sat down in homeroom waiting for the bell to ring. Brrriinnngggg! I rushed to Mrs. Gregory’s room for Lit. Everything was fine until gym class. I had forgotten my assignment notebook in Mrs. Saphir’s room so I ran back upstairs to get it from under my chair. As I started to walk back towards the locker room I heard the bell ring… late! I walked into the locker room hoping Mrs. Dennis wouldn’t notice my tardiness, but my locker is right next to her office. I quickly filled out a minor for before…

Once again, I was placed in Mrs.Metcalfe who teaches second grade at Bens Branch Elementary. Mrs.Metcalfe took attendance while the students waited patiently on the carpet. After she took attendance, she addressed that she had taken some privileges away from the students because the students did not picked up their mess after having centers and would not follow instructions that the teacher gave. She explained that centers might return for the upcoming school year if they behaved properly. After she addressed the issues of the students, she instructed everyone to go back to their desks and waited till they put their thumbs which meant that they were ready for the lesson of the day. Mrs.Metcalfe went up to the front of the class to use the projector and expected her students to follow what she was doing on their worksheets.…

My parents didn’t believe me, they thought that I was just making things up so I could miss school. I ended up getting mono and missing a month and a half of school. I feel so far behind that it was hard to even catch up, when I did get back to school finally I was going in on off hours and staying after to catch up on my work. The only teacher who wanted to help me was my math teacher. When I did ask for help my teacher told me that I was “stupid” in front of the whole class. I was embarrassed and felt like that shy little girl again who was afraid of the world and to talk to people. These teachers made me feel like I was worthless and that I wouldn’t go anywhere in life. That’s when I knew that I had to leave, if I didn’t I knew I would always seen in my brother’s shadow and not in my own light. Since I was little I have always been shy and never really spoke up or defended myself, but from that year in school I learned that it’s okay to defend yourself and I learned to speak up. Upon seeing the teacher, the students showed their widest smile to the teacher, greeting her in a most friendly way, as if she were their friend. They had a nice, brief conversation, but as soon as the teacher turned and made ONE STEP around the corner, I could not believe my eyes what a drastic change occurred in my classmates’ facial expression and intonation of the voice. They all became so conspicuously negative that it almost made me sick.…

She told me to follow her to the office. We arrived to the office and she told me to have a seat. I saw her head to her desk and started dialing the phone to call someone. I headed to my first class which just so happened to be my favorite subject, English. The hallways were very wide but when filled with students I felt like I had to shove my way through just to get to my locker. The lockers were a mixture between Gray and purple. The school colors were supposed to be purple and silver but there was no way that these lockers could be considered. I took a look at the little piece of paper that the lady in the office had given me and tried out the combination on my locker. It took me about five minutes to open it and after struggling for that long I was a little irritated so when it did open, it flew open and slammed into the locker next to mine. I held my breath and hoped that nobody had noticed. I took a long deep breath and slowly opened my eyes again. Luckily I was still standing alone and nobody around was looking at me. I put my extra books and notebooks into the locker and and closed it as quietly as I could.…

Mrs. Snyder passed tests out and flipped mine over when she placed it on my desk. I flip over and read the paper. It says “PARENT CONFERENCE MONDAY NIGHT AT 7:00 PM.” I looked at the grade and my heart dropped, it was a F. I hear the bell ring and I was so mad at myself I just put my test away and stomped out of the room. That night, I heard my parent’s car pull in after school. “I have to show them, I have to.” As they walk through the door, I hand my test to them and explained what happened. Even though, I didn't know where any of my classrooms were. Lets fast-forward a bit. I did not do well in 3 of my classes. I later failed them. The next semester there was this program for students that failed a course or courses last semester. I was in that program and it was called "study skills" even though we didn't do any studying. There were 2 parts to this class. We either work to get our credits back or we be in the classroom and learn things we don't need to know. By the way there were other students there instead of just me. The students (including me) were all annoyed with the class and very disliked it. We were in the class room more than we were getting our credits back, but even when we were everyone still hated it. We were just being pushed around do this, do that, its sad. Due to us not doing much work we all had to do summer school. I have been regretting ever since then and I want to drop out of school. I'm not going to but i feel the need to. Lesson learned to always do your work even though you have to listen to people that don't deserve to have the type of power they…

The bus finally arrived at its destination. I enthusiastically got off the bus facing the school gigantic gates. Since it was my first day, those moments supposed to be awkward and nerve-wracking. On the contrary, they were not because my older sister accompanied me to the school. So I felt so secure that I had no negative foresights about anything. I noticed seeing the doorman sitting on a chair in front of the gates. Despite the difficultness of noticing the smile on his wrinkled face, I could hardly see him smiling at me when he opened the gates for me to enter. My eyes gleamed by seeing the world behind the gates. I was very elated to see many girls wearing the same as me. To my great surprise, one of my second cousins was there with her mother. I was so happy that her mother left her with us.…
