No Sleep, Not Sweet A college life is busy every day of the week; busy with school work, extracurricular activities, and just plain out having fun with the college life. All of these actions can produce positive out comes, but what students do not realize is that they need their proper amount of sleep. It's essential to get as close to eight hours of sleep as possible every night. With out this, negative side effects can occur such as, natural accidents, and psychological health disorders such as obesity. The "National Sleep Foundation reports that lack of sleep leads to problems completing a task, concentrating or making decisions as well as unsafe actions." The lack of sleep can cause people to get drowsy while driving causing even more serious accidents on the road. The Sleep Foundation claims that "more than 1,500 people die every year in fatigue-related crashes." Something that seems so small like this has actually been identified to be strangely serious. Some people believe they can train their bodies to stay up for long periods of time but, this isn't quite the case at all. As a matter of fact, if you try to do this you will cause side effects that can be harmful such as health and psychological disorders. The CDC states that "insomnia may contribute to chronic illnesses such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity." Your body can't carry out the every day assignments it is used to without the proper amount of sleep- the assignments put in place to keep you healthy. To figure out if you're not receiving enough sleep be aware if you are having slowed speech, loss of memory, and feeling physically and emotionally exhausted. "If you have not slept at night, you will find it difficult to perform your activities the next day. Lack of sleep causes impairment of abilities." These are just a few side effects that occur when you aren't receiving enough sleep. "It has also been found that a side effect of sleep deprivation that has been under the radar for a while now, is obesity." Therefore it is not only the unhealthy diet causing obesity, but the quote on quote "lack of sleep" as well. Now, don't let yourself over think about what you put into your mouth; One night is not going to cause obesity, but the lifestyle will make significant changes. "Dr St-Onge, who is presenting the research at the annual conference of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Sleep Research Society", revealed a fact that, a person restricted from sleep will be more likely to crave and eat the salt and fat infested foods that hurt your body overtime rather then the nutritional diet your body needs. If a survey was taken place on who would rather have a healthy life instead of dealing with accidents, psychological and health disorders and obesity. Its not hard to realize that a healthy life style should win a hundred times to one. Therefore if you see you may be going through problems with sleeping, or just having a difficult time attaining this responsibility see a physician. Which they can give you a treatment plan to use and by doing this you will be rewarded a deal you should intelligently like to have. Keeping your overall health close to complete and stabilized.

Sleep deprivation is a factor that has also contributed to the high death total every year. While many don’t know it, sleep isn’t just mental, sleep is a factor that is also connected to our immune system. In the book Sleep Thieves, our immune system is proven to be more active while we are asleep and can be disrupted of its normal response pattern with loss of sleep (Coren 171). Also, an experiment conducted in Finland had about 10,778 adult subjects where they were followed for six years, being monitored for their health and sleep times. He created a report full of findings in 1988 where he obtained information of resulting incidents from sleep deprivation.
