Students starting school later ?
Students today struggle in school because the aren't sleeping for at least 8 hours at night. This means they have less time to do things like get ready for school, get homework done, or come to school early in the morning to ask questions for homework. School should start later because it will increase attendance, students will be more engaged in class, and students will have more time with their parents. Schools should start later to increase attendance. Some schools that have started later saw a decrease tardiness and dropout rates. The students that went to a school with a 8:37 AM start time slept about one hour more and reported having less difficulty staying awake in school. The School District made released a statement about the change in school start times and it said, “Fully rested teens have improved memory, reaction time, mood and athletic performance.Teenagers are naturally inclined to stay up later at night and wake up later in the morning. An 8:30 A.M. start time improves students’ chances of success.” …show more content…
For example When some children wake up in the morning, they don’t have the energy to eat breakfast or dress up. They are tired and unaware of their surroundings. On the other hand, if they were given an extra maybe thirty minutes or a whole hour, they would be able to do more things like be sure they have their supplies for school ready or finish up homework they might have needed help on. They would also be more awake and participate in class more and pay attention. Some schools in Kentucky changed their school times from 7:45 A.M. to 8:40 A.M.
