Friend

With the amount of people that have entered and left my life, I can't help but question myself on who was and who wasn't my friend? This could be someone that cared and wished the best for me or simply someone who was there through the tougher parts of my life. I could say that everyone I've met has been a friend to me but that would be too general. A friendship is something that grows after many encounters between two people for a deeper connection.

What is the definition of a friend? A friend is, according to the Merriam-Webster's Dictionary is, "one attached to another by affection or esteem." Many people make new friends, best friends, that they can count on for anything. Others have wishy washy friends that are there when they need something. In general, there has to be countless definitions of what a friend could be.

Although there are many definitions of a friend, a person knows the true meaning of friendship if they have ever had a friend. Friends often come and go through life but the people you connect with the most always stay. Many people learn from their peers and often ask for advice from one another. Having a good friend can usually brighten a bad day, and make you smile since that is what friends are for.

A good friend listens to problems and offers useful advice to better their situation. A loyal pal will stand next to their friend's decisions and choices no matter what happens. Sometimes one may not always like or agree with what their friends have to say but since there is a common ground between the two, one will often listen and respect what the other has to say.

A friendship, just like other types of relationshps, faces its own challenges and some of the time, there is an all-out loss of friendship. The word friend means exactly what it is, just a word. The pure substance behind the word no longer bares any true meaning and feeling behind it. I have learned to limit the use of the word and can only call a select few a true friend. Growing up I thought I was popular because I had so many friends. However little did I know that instead of calling these people friends, I should have substituted the word for acquaintances, or in the future outlook of it all, maybe even enemies. A friend is supposed to be there for you through thick and thin. Friends stick by your side no matter what and have your best interest in hand. There for, these people I considered friends, were not my friends, but bad influences.…
