Beowulf, in the reader’s perspective is a very strong and noble man. As the poem says, “Nor have I seen a mightier man-at-arms on this earth than the one standing here: unless I am mistaken, he is truly noble. There is mere hanger-on in a hero’s armour.” (244-251). He is noble because he knows his possible consequence of fighting but does not fear death. Beowulf…
Beowulf also has the character trait of bravery. He goes before all others when things go bad. He would rather risk his own life, than to see someone else risk theirs. He asked a favor to the ruler…
Beowulf exemplifies the perfect hero, even from his youth he perfectly embodies the manners and values dictated by the Germanic heroic code, including pride, loyalty, and strength. Beowulf’s youthful heroism as an unfettered warrior and his mature heroism as a reliable king, help portray him as a man of great character who is fair and just. Beowulf’s actions were some of proving his power and might, his attitude was that he was the best, and he was out to show it. This doesn't mean that he was of bad character, he was proud of himself and was striving to be the best he could be.…
Beowulf is definitely a very courageous man. While being a leader of the Geats and protecting the land, he shows bravery throughout the epic poem. Beowulf’s motivation was not to kill Grendel, a demon descended from Cain, but to only build up his reputation. He shows bravery specifically during three accomplishments during the epic poem.…
A couple is enjoying a lovely ride through the cornfields on a summer day. Suddenly a small, shiny spacecraft crash lands next to the couple. They run to the craft and inspect it, they open the lid to reveal a baby. The couple adopts the baby and he grows to become the greatest superhero of all time, Superman. The same type of story happened thousands of years prior, this time we travel to the land of the Danes. Beowulf arrives on a ship, requesting the presence of the king. He is here to save Hrothgar’s people and slay Grendel. Beowulf was the first real superhero and his story is legendary.…
Beowulf’s first heroic traits were his use of strtength and courage. With his courage he was able to stand up and protect his fellow people and with his strength it helped him defate his eniemies. For example, in the battle with Grendel,”And defate, the tears torn out of Grendel’s/ Taut throat, hell’s captive caught in the arms/ Of him who of all then men on earth/ Was the strongest” (346-349). In this quote Beowulf showed great strength in the battle with Grendel. He made his enemy run for his life. With Beowulf’s strength he had made the people feel safe again. Everyone thought he had amzing courage for coming face to face with the evil Grendel. In addition, “But so massive that no ordinary man could lift/ From its scabbard, broke the chain on its hilt” (488-490). In the quote, Beowulf showed his strength and lifted a sword that no regular man could lift. His strength allowed him to dominate in battle. If it were not for his pure strength or couage, he would not have been able to dafate Grendel or his mother.…

For conclude, to become a greatest hero like Beowulf, he has to have these qualities: bossy, independent, and fearless. Beowulf is an awesome hero, he saves many people from the monsters. Even when he has to face the death, he still doing what he said to keep his…
Through Beowulf’s whole life, he definitely showed that he was a hero. He lived up to all the expectations that were thrown out there. He showed everyone from all over, his bravery, loyalty, and his strength. The one thing that made Beowulf great is that he always had confidence. He left his thrown to Wiglaf who would carry on, just the same way as Beowulf…
Beowulf’s heroic deeds Included he accepted the king’s request to kill Grendel, he ripped Grendel’s arm off, and killed Grendel’s mother.…
There are many ancient poems detailing epic heroes throughout history. There are the heroes Gilgamesh and the Odysseus, to name a few; however, one of the oldest and greatest heroes originates from the Anglo-saxon epic poem Beowulf. The protagonist/hero of the poem, Beowulf, possesses qualities of epic heroes that most people know of today, which includes great strength, incredible pride, and unbreakable courage and determination. Throughout the poem, Beowulf repeatedly exhibits these qualities of a hero, among many more, which sufficiently ends up portraying him as one.…
One of the values that are held dear in Beowulf is heroism. Beowulf himself is supposed to a representation of this; he is supposed to be and actual hero. However his actions against Grendel seem to prove that he is not actually a hero. Beowulf acted out in ager and exacted an unnecessary vengeance on Grendel after he killed Grendel’s mother: “But Beowulf repaid him for those visits/ found him lying dead in his corner/ Armless…. then struck off his head with a single blow.” (pp. 59 ll. 540-544) Grendel was already dead, but Beowulf was still angry and attacked an adversary that could not defend himself, a dishonorable deed by almost every culture’s measure. Hero’s do not let themselves act out in anger as Beowulf did; just one of the points proving that he was not a hero.…
My first reason Beowulf is a hero is because he risked his life to help Hrothgar and the land of Danes. Beowulf risked his life when he fought Grendal who was almost impossible to kill this can be seen when the text says “Man after man went into those terrible jaws and still Grendal came on unsatisfied his green eyes glaring his slimy skin not even scratched by the hacking axes”(pg 15). From this passage it is clear Beowulf was risking his life when he fought…
In “Beowulf”, written by an author unknown, many people consider Beowulf to be the hero, because of its epic poem status, I would disagree with this statement. Some characteristics that can be attributed to heroes are: educated, just, humble, strong, and selfless. While this is only a short list some of these characteristics hold true for Beowulf. Unfortunately, a hero must have all of these adjectives, and many of these do not apply to Beowulf. Throughout the novel, there were many instances of how Beowulf was a selfish leader who was only fighting to receive honor towards his name, not to genuinely save his people.…
A hero possesses many characteristics, Beowulf had many characteristics such as super human strength, pride, and wisdom. Although he had many more than those previously mentioned, he is a outstanding hero and shows it time and time again throughout the story, proving he is the ultimate hero. Saving his people and even people who are not his people.…
