US101 Week 4: Reading Comprehension Worksheet

Do not delete instructions or make changes to worksheet.

Use either Arial 12 point or Times New Roman 12 point fonts. Do not use colored fonts. Do not bold, underline, italicize, or use all capital letters.

Start typing under the question and use double spacing.

Use formal language, eliminate contractions, and capitalize the word “I.” Be sure to provide detailed responses.

Your responses should be in an essay format. Do not number or list your answers. Write your answers in a sentence format.

The minimum word requirements for items 1, 2, 3, & 4 are 100 to 125 words.

also use blocking and following, I do this to cover up the text I am not reading and to follow

along with me as I read to avoid reading the thing twice. And I also use paraphrasing and

summarizing the text. I paraphrase by taking the paragraph or text that seems a bit confusing,

restating it aloud in my own words so I fully understand it. When I summarize I still restate it in

my own words but only the main ideas or key ideas of the passage.

2. Describe the reading and comprehension strategies you can employ to help make you a more effective reader. Previewing what I read so that I can get a better view of

the paragraph or text and a better understanding of what I am about to read and also

start reading with concentration, so that I can focus more on what it is that I am reading

so that it sinks in and I will be able to recall and memorize what I was reading. Also

reading slowly, taking notes and underlying key texts or paragraphs as I read them. I

find that way I am utilizing more than just 1 sense and the information is then stored
