Ways we can help
Teacher is not real people, who speak to quickly and whose accents difficult to understand.
Use the audio materials or practice listening to native speakers with various accents and normal speech speed.
Confusing if the conversation involves more than two people or with background interference.
Use different types of audio material: dialogs, news reports, technical presentations, speeches and etc.
Losing of interest and concentration if the material is too long or out of interests.
Setting of different types of task – true/false questions, sentence completion, open-ended questions, who/what/why questions. Use themes interesting to students.
Difficulties in selection of information they need
Give to students a pre-question to prepare them. Set a main aim/reason for listening.
Missing of familiar words or phrases because of pronunciation, word stress, contractions and weak forms
Talk about new forms or weak forms before listening. Write a word or sentence at the blackboard. Use minimal pair exercises
Understanding of sentence stress which influent on meaning
Pay attention to intonation pattern in different languages. Group work can give much needed encouragement and support.

TASK 2
You are going to prepare a listening exercise which will firstly train extensive listening skills, then move on to develop intensive listening skills.
Because we have already mentioned the importance of using authentic materials, your task is this:
1. Record the news from: (a) the radio OR (b) as a podcast from a website. Ideally you need a 2-3 minute bulletin with at least 8 different news items. Make a written transcript of the broadcast.
2. Make a list of at least 12 general topic areas, such as 'politics ', 'sport
