Taylor believe that employees are only motivated by money, more paid they get more effective they will be, This theories suggest to pay the staff depending on their performance, poor performance mean less money and good performance means that they will get a better wage. Tesco and Superdrug goes beyond this theory and gives more than just a simple pay increase such as Holiday discount or gym membership.

• Better communication between the workforce and the mangers
• Greater manager involvement in staff working live and conditions
• More group work, so that employees will not fell left alone
Businesses have to introduced team working and personnel department to look after their employees’ interest. Tesco hold a day to daily team meeting between managers and staff so that worker received value award, this is a way to say to the worker how much they appreciate them.
Maslow
Maslow’s theory suggest that in order for employees to be effective, there is five level of need that have to be fulfilled at work. The 5 levels are:
In order to reach the top level, it is very important that first of all the lower level of need has been fully met, each of the level have to be met in order to go forward.
When the worker get paid they can accomplishing the basic and most important needs such as shelter and food, after that that they have to feel safe; the working environment of the business must be well secured so that employees feel more relax while working. Also employees need to feel that they are not left alone, that is why they need to belong to a team, and also they need self-respect. And finally the last level is the self-actualisation, everyone need to have a goal in their live, they need to have a target that they want to achieve in order to keep themselves motivated. Businesses should therefore offer different incentives to workers in order to help them to fulfil each of the needs one by one and to progress up the hierarchy. Tesco and superdrugs provide the security of formal contracts of emplyement as well as pension and sickness leaves, these businesses provide tindividual and grup work and enable the staff to work as a team to make them feel that they beylong to the firm. tesco and superdrug offers promotions and career progression within the busines for those employees who are effective.
